I think I know the answer already, but I thought I'd ask anyway. I have a Sony STR-DE805G receiver controlled by the RM-VR1 "Egg" remote. According to [Link: remotecentral.com] most universal remotes won't work with this receiver. I have an RS 15-1994 remote and I only want to control the volume on the receiver. Any chance that I can do that with this remote? Thanks!

Until you find out for sure whether you can control the receiver with a universal remote, here is a link for repair of your egg remote, in case you want to consider this option.

Thanks for the pointer, Ron. My remote still works. It's just that I'm trying to consolidate as many other remotes as I can onto the 15-1994. I read a posting from Mr. Cinema7 (posted July 2003):

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Recently, Universal Electronics has added the *G or VisionTouch receivers to their database. With any upgradable OFA or RS remote, you can call customer service and have the code (RCVR/1442) loaded into it. Also, their newer models should have the code built in.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Is the 15-1994 considered upgradeable? Would I have to send my remote in or is there some way to download this update into it?

Bummer :(

So there's no way, even using JP1, to add this functionality to the 15-1994?

I couldn't answer that, wait for Rob. If you want an upgradeable remote, they include the ofa urc-8910, 9910, HT-PRO( very cheap now), and all of the kameleons.

Thanks for the reply, Edmund. The HT-PRO looks very nice and for a good price from x10.com. Any idea whether it works out of the box with the VisionTouch receivers?

If it needs RCVR code 1442, then no that code isn't preset in the HT-PRO. But can be added via phone call.

In case you didn't get a JP1 cable yet. DO IT. I just posted the final upgrade for the STR-DE805G receiver at [Link: hifi-remote.com]

Now we finally have a cheap way to replace that darn egg!!!

You can upgrade your 15-1994 remote with the JP1 cable or buy a new 8810w at walmart for less then $20.

Go take a look and give me a yell if you have problems.

Not without hacking it via JP1.
