We seem to be in the very same boat here! I too am looking for a RC-855 Remote. I bought a AVR 1700 Reviever from Best Buy in San Diego about 5 or 6 Years ago. It was sold as a demo, and there was no remote. I only reciently have been looking for a RC-855. I guess I should have bought on back then when they were a heck of allot cheaper. If you find anything out, please let me know. I'll do the same. I found a few sites, but the prices were outragious!
Talk soon. Greg (hafengr)

I contacted the Denon service department about the RC-855. It is no longer in production. They told me to buy the RC-974 that is the replacement remote. I bought one for $87.00 from Vance Baldwin Electronics at their online site. It came yesterday. Now my problem is setting up the RC-974 to work with my AVR1700.
Since my manual only cantains setup info for the RC-855 there is a small problem understanding the buttons and what to push for what situation. I am currently searching for a place to get this info, since the Denon site has no area to download manuals. I'll pass on any more info I find. One would think a manual would be supplied, but I guess we are on our own to find it.

I just set up a new thread concerning this problem we are dealing with. Hopefully it will be a window for new information we all can use. The thread is called Denon RC-974 Remote Control. Not quite sure what else to do at this point, so it was worth a try.

Guys, I may have found a solution to our problem! Being as the RC-855 is no longer in production and the RC-974 is the replacement. I found out that the AVR2803 is operated by the RC-974. Since I had a problem setting up the RC-974 with my AVR1700 whereinas I had no instructions manual I went to see if there was any auction on Ebay for the AVR2803. I found one that had the manual and remote for sale. The guy had a Adobe run manual in his auction, so I am printing out the manual as I type this. All the instructions are here. The link is [Link: denon.ca]
I am going to try to setup my new RC-974 to operate my AVR1700 this afternoon. I will post the results this evening for you. Hopefully we have a solution to all this mess. I feel pretty confident though, so keep in touch!

Not sure if your still looking for a RC855 Denon Remote, but there are a few on Ebay right now. I finally picked one up after trying to fool around with the RC974 I purchased for my Denon AVR 1700. Never did get it to work everything on my amp, so I went looking again for the RC855. I paid fifty bucks to a guy on ebay. There is one on there now with a starting bid of nine bucks with the option to buy at $50.00. Good luck in your search.

Mine stopped working so I looked for a replacment. After finding nothing good to replace the RC-855, I disassembled and repaired mine.
Remove the screw inside the battery compartment first!
The bottom is a pan and the top clips into it in three places along the sides. Use a small screw driver or thin sturdy tool to pry the pan away from the top half in the groove along the side.
Another screw inside holds the PC board to the top half of the remote. All the buttons are connected together so no risk of getting them mixed up.
I cleaned the black conductive rubber pads and the PC board with alcohol.
It works great now, as good as new.
