How do I keep the downstairs MX-800 from turning on and off the upstairs Marantz receiver (upstairs uses mx-700) when I am trying to turn on and off the downstairs Marantz receiver??? Tried assigning RF line but doesn't seem to solve it.

The only way for the mx-800 being downstairs to control a something upstairs is if you had its basestation upstairs, right? So you're going to want need to set the Marantz device on the mx-800 to IR only. To prevent it from communicating with the basestation on least that device.

actually, each remote has it's own basestation (MX-700 with RF receiver and marantz a/v receiver in upstars tv cabinet and MX0800 with rf receiver and Marantz a/v receiver in downstairs cabinet). Both need RF since a/v equipment are hidden and out of line of site. But the upstairs equipment is within rf range of downstairs remote... how can I keep that downstairs remote from controlling upstairs a/v receiver without losing RF control of each system? thanks!

Since the HTM Rf remotes communicate directly with all RF extenders on the market, the only one it won't talk to is another MRF-200 set to a different unit code. Meaning you'll need to replace the mx-700 with another mx-800.:( Or you can go cheap, replace the mx-700 with a UEI RF remote, like the HT-PRO or a OFA urc-9910, the mx-800 won't communicate with their basestation.

If I change the MX-800 with a marantz 6500 can I keep the Marantz remote from controlling the marantz receiver on the upstairs receiver?

If the marantz remote is IR only, it shouldn't control a receiver in another room. If you're going to use the marantz remote itself?

You need to know, that not only does the mx-800 remote itself communicate directly with most Rf extender receivers, but the transmitter from those RF extenders communicates directly with MRF-200. Meaning when you point IR only mx-700 at RF transmitter, the signal will be sent both the corresponding RF receiver in the cabinet upstairs and to the MRF-200 downstairs.

You should also post this in the HTM remote forum on this site.
