I have been searching for a universal remote and I am so confused, I am not sure where to go. Can you give me a recommendation on a universal remote. We are looking for one that will work the following items:
Zenith P42W24BX Plasma TV
Dish network 721
AIWA surround sound AV-DV75
Sony DVD/VCR SLV-D300P
The Remote we are using now is the One for all Cinema 7 (URC-7800). But we were told it would not work for the DVD/VCR. We also use the remote for the DIsh 721, but it won't control the DVD/VCR. so we have to use the DVD/vcr remote also.
Any help would be appreciated.
THANKS!
Wanda

If you get yourself a JP1 cable you can make your URC-7800 control all of your devices.

Thank you for that information. I will look into it. The one thing I found on the all in one is that once I progragam to work everything I forget what works what. So ,I may need a note book! HA!HA!
I was kind of looking at the cable, mine would need the pin adapter. If I can't find the pin or just decide to upgrade to another remote, what would anyone recommend? I have kind of been looking at the ones with the touch pad, but not real sure how to figure out which one will work without breaking the bank. They look like, once setup, they would be user friendly for the "ooops, forgot which did what" person.
THANKS!

You can't remember that the "play" button is yor "input' button when on TV?
Welcome to the club! I've never understood WHY anyone should have to remember.

Universal remote control has several models that have LCD "buttons" that can be edited (labeled) properly. They also have great macroability (push DVD and the TV, reciever switch to the proper inputs, the remote hard buttons control DVD). They put the fun back in your entertainment system. Plus, they are easy to use on a daily basis.

The Sony LCD's do a decient job, but, the screen is hard to read.

While either would be alot easier to use than the one you have, check out the reviews of the URC remote's on this site.
Every day is a good day.......some are just better than others!

Proud to say that my property is protected by a high speed wireless device!

When you buy a JP1 cable, they usually come with a spare 6-pin for just such occassions as this. Ideally, you should then solder the 6-pin into the holes in the remote's PCB, but you can get by by just holding the pins in place.

Thank you Rob. We have had it for awhile. The only problem I have is we have setup this one and found that if you don't use the settings very often, we don't remember what does what.
(They say the mind is the first thing to go)
Short of having notes written to tell me what does what we are lost. So, I was looking for something which I hope will help us with this problem. THe sony LCD writing looks like it could be a probelm for us because of size.
so we have been looking at the URC. I did find a great price on a URC-300 $119. so we may get it.
THANKS!

I would recommend the HTM MX-500 for you. It has hard buttons for most of the common functions and it has an LCD screen where you can label custom functions (ie, the ones you tend to forget).

However, personally, I find that if you use some thought and good judgement when you place the mis-named functions on a remote like the URC-7800 you will be able to figure out what does what. I use a remote that's conceptually very similar to the URC-7800 (my remote is the Radio Shack 15-1994) and I have been using it for over 5 years now and totally love it. I have it programmed to work my ReplayTV box, which has many difficult to place buttons, and I've found spots for them all.

If you like, give me some examples of the buttons that are hard to place (and remember) and I'll tell you where I'd put them.
Rob.
