That's a JVC VCR oem remote, to control a TV or CABLE with it, you need to hold down the TV key at all times when you want to control a tv. and the same for cable. They're crappy remotes.

First, it only controls JVC vcrs. It takes two digit codes. I hope you understand this, once you program the Tv code in, to control the volume, you need to hold down the TV button at all times, while pressing the volume keys. I have 3 of the LP20303-015 remotes now, I used to have two LP20303-008 with my HR-S3500 & HR-S4500 vcrs. The difference in the remotes when programming them, now you need to press the OK key, where on yours you need to hit the STOP key. To program the Tv code:

1. press and hold TV
2. press MBR SET
3. enter the two digit code
4. press STOP, the tV should turn off.

What brand of TV do you have?

Edmund, I'm trying to program my rca tv and my gemini
cable box. When I press stop, should I be holding down
the tv or cable box button or after entering the code
do I release it? Carl

Press and hold means "PRESS AND HOLD!!!. when programming the TV code you will be constantly holding the TV key. Then when you program the cable box you constantly hold the CABLE/DBS key.

1. press and hold TV key
2. with the other hand press and release MBR SET
3. enter 0-5
4. press STOP, now release the tv key.

To program the cable box

1. press and HOLD the CABLE/DBS key
2. with other hand press and release MBR SET
3. enter 1-5
4. press STOP, now releasde the CABLE/DBS key

Now I'm finished with this thread. I won't be back.

We have this same model (came with our JVC HR-VP673U) but to reduce clutter, we've been using a universal remote for the past several years instead. Recently, I needed a function not available on the UR, so I got out the LP20303-008. For some reason, the VCR no longer responds to it, though it is apparently sending (its IR-LED flashes when viewed with a digital camera). Any thoughts as to why the VCR works fine with the UR, but not with its own OEM remote?

The remote can control two different JVC VCR's, but only one at a time. The jvc remote must be set to other code. To switch codes

1. press and HOLD MBR SET- A/B key, don't release.
2. press #1 and release it.
3. press OK, now release all keys.

If it doesn't work, repeat but in step two, press #2.

Edmund,

Thanks! Wow, ten minutes! Great response time.

Unfortunately, I tried the procedure you mentioned, but it still doesn't work.

When you say "#1" or "#2" do you mean the 1 or 2 on the numeric keypad, or an actual code # for the VCR? If you mean the code, I no longer have the manual, so I wouldn't even know what it is.

Any other suggestions?

Never mind, I got it! I re-read the thread...

>The difference in the remotes when programming them, now you need to press the OK key, where on yours you need to hit the STOP key.

As a follow-up question, do you know if the manual for this beast is available on-line?

Thanks!

I forgot this is an old remote. Newer remotes use OK, where yours uses STOP.

No, have no idea where the manual can be found.
