Macros can go on any key except for the Device Keys and the P key (there may be one or two more that I am forgetting though). You are not limited to just the L1-L4 buttons. Once a macro is programmed on a key, then just pressing that key (no matter what device mode the remote is in!!) will execute the macro.

However, it is possible to "stack" two macros on one single key. You would have one macro on just the Key and then you would have another macro on the P/Key. To do this, when you are programming the macro in and you get to the point where you enter the key you want to assign the macro to, press the P and then the Key instead of just pressing the key. Then to execute the "stacked" macro, you would press the P and then the Key. To execute the normal macro (not the stacked macro), you would just press the key.

The only time that you need to press the P key is when you are programming the remote, accessing a stacked macro/key, or entering advanced codes directly. Under normal situations, you don't use the P key.

Remember that if you code a macro on a key, then when that key is pressed it will execute the macro regardless of what mode the remote is in. For instance, on my Power button I programmed in a macro that turns all of my equipment on, puts the TV on the correct channel to watch cable, and leaves the remote in the VCR mode. If I press the AUX2 device button (putting the remote in DVD mode) and then the Power button, it will execute that macro. If I press the VCR device button (putting the remote in VCR mode) and then the Power button, it will still execute the macro. So, be careful about what keys you put macros on. You want to try to pick a key that is not used in ANY remote mode. For instance, you wouldn't want to put macros on the number keys because you use those keys to specify the input for your receiver.

I have been looking at the RS 15-1994, mostly via these forums, with the intention of replacing my Cinema 6. I would like to retire it to the den. I have spent a considerable amount of time on the 6, getting to function very effectively and believe that I can duplicate it on the 15-1994, with one problem I noticed above. The volume punch through cannot be set for the receiver? Would'nt Russ' resolution eat a lot of memory?

I have not found a way to get the volume punch through to work with the receiver. I would LOVE it if someone could tell me a way to do it. PLEASE!!!

And yes, it does eat some memory. But, I haven't had to "learn" a lot of commands so I have enough memory left over that this hasn't been a problem for me....yet. If you are hitting the limits on the two memory areas on the "learning" Cinema 6, then you will probably have a problem getting the 15-1994 set up identical to the Cinema 6. I have also noticed that there are some keys that were pre-programmed on the Cinema7 but are not pre-programmed on the 15-1994. But they weren't high use keys and I don't remember exactly what they were. This also may be specific to my brand of equipment.

P.S. I have verified that the memory limits on the 15-1994 are identical to the learning Cinema7.

I went to buy one of these remote last night but NO Radio Shacks have any in the Dallas/Ft.Worth area. The salesman told me that it was on sale and he didn't understand why none of the stores have any. WHAT'S UP WITH THAT???

Not real smart on Radio Shack's behalf, have a very popular item that no one can buy because they aren't in the stores (all of them) and THEN put it on sale. Go figure!

I bought it 2 days ago at a local radio shack in a very small mall. It was on sale for $29 It's excellent, I did get it to use receiver volume in dvd (aux2) and VCR modes by using the button sequences posted earlier. I couldn't ask for more.

I would go back to radio shack and request a rain check for that price. Also have them place you on a wait list so they can call you when it comes in.

Can someone confirm whether this remote will work with the IR -> X-10 controller sold by smarthome.com? Does Radio Shack sell a similar model?

Essentially I want to control & dim two lamps behind my entertainment unit with this 15-1994 remote. What all will I need to do this?

By the way, is X-10 and Plug N' Power the same thing, just different names?

Thanks...

Does anyone know anything about the 15-1935 remote? Someone posted that it was $10 more than the 15-1994 but didn't really go inot detail about the differences. I looked on the Shack website but couldn't find it listed.

I can't find the 15-1994 anywhere and Radio Shack says they don't even have any in the warehouse.

But how does the 15-1935 compare? Is it backlit? Can it learn on almost every key? Does it have macros?

Help - I need a good universal remote!

I just purchased the 15-1994. Love it except the Sony codes for my CD player (5 disc carousel) do not work; any thoughts.

Also, my co-worker just purchased the 15-1935. He says it seems to do all what the 15-1994 does and has an LCD and the punch through for the receiver volume works.

Can anyone give me more info regarding the 15-1935? Is it new? Compare it to the 15-1994.

Thanks.....

Just a comment that though the 15-1994 appears in Radio Shack's online catalogue, the 15-1935 does not. Not too sure if that means it's new, discontinued or what.

Folks,
The spirit of this chat site is terrific. I commend you for your good samaritan assistance to non-technical folks like myself.
Programming my new RS15-1994 to control my TV, AV receiver, sat receiver, VCR, and laser disk player was pretty straightforward. I had to reprogram the CD button to VCR before entering the laser disk code in order to use the CD button to control the laser disk, but the 1994 accepted the codes in each case. Although I haven't given up yet, I have been having difficulty programming the 1994 to accept the code for my Pioneer 414 DVD
player, though. I understand that DVDs use the same codes as laser disk players and thus would also need to be operated with the 1994's VCR button, so that I would need to reprogram the remaining AUX2 button to VCR. I've been trying that without luck so far. Is it possible to reassign the VCR button functions to more than one other button (ie., to both CD and AUX2)? So far no luck....

I went a looked at the 15-1935 during lunch today. It is not new, the 15-1995 will replace it but it isn't out yet. The 15-1935 is a good deal if you don't want "learning" capability. It comes with and IR/RF extender (must be plugged in and recommends placement with 8 feet of component) and has backlighting (green) and macros (two buttons - one for audio and one for video). The manual says nothing about "learning".
The remote also doesn't have the necessary buttons for DVD such as display, title, menu, return, etc.

I got a raincheck for the 15-1994 and they will call me when it comes in - just wish I didn't have to wait!

To Steve ...

I too live in the Dallas area, and I finally resorted to ordering a remote from a Radio Shack in Indianapolis (they didn't even charge me for shipping). The guy at the North Park RS told me that there aren't any 15-1994 remotes on order for the entire SW region, so who knows when they'll come in. If you really want the remote, I suggest you try to find one in the Midwest somewhere (start with Indianapolis) ...

To Jeff ...

You are a genius! I looked up Radio Shacks in Indianapolis at the Radio Shack website. The first store I called had one in stock (you are awesome)! The are shipping it to me (free of charge) and it should be here by the end of the week! Total cost = $31.49. Yeah!

Eternal thanks,
Steve
