Quick question: What is the consensus of this huge thread? Is the Cinema 7 IQ or the RS1994 better? Any thoughts?

Got a RS flyer in the mail yesterday. In case you were putting off getting the remote and thought you missed the sale, the $29.99 price will apply all through the month of March: sales prices are good until 4/1/00.

Count me in as one more who jumped on the 15-1994 primarily due to the praises and amazing backup information in this thread. I did consider the Cinema 7 but just didn't care for the looks of it. Thanks to all for their selfless support here.

I have a drawerful of universal remotes, but bought the 1994 because of this thread. It has become my remote of choice, and, believe it or don't, even the wife has been eyeing it lately. I think she may touch it soon. I'm not sure I want that...

I also purchased this remote entirely based upon the recomendations here. I went to RS and bought it without even trying it out. I've had it a week and I've already put all my old remotes (7 of them) away since I don't need them anymore. Its great and I haven't even programmed any macros yet. I prefer it to the Cinema 7 due to the backlighting. My wife kept trying to talk me out of the $300 Pronto and I think this one has me convinced. Count me in as another satisfied user.

what does it matter

To put it plainly...... This remote kicks ass!..... Gonna take the money I saved on the pronto, and throw a big bash for everyone in this forum!.... You guys rule!

GregoriousM,

Although I prefer the 15-1994, especially due to the backlighted keypad, don't count the Cinema 7 out. It supports 7 devices vs. 6 for the 15-1994. The Cinema 7 also has more manufacturer codes than the 15-1994.

I purchased both units and the verdict is still not in. The nice part of this is I have 30 days to decide.

Greg: Can you let me know what conclusions you came to about the two remotes when you're finished testing them out. My email is [email protected]. I'd appreciate it. I much prefer the look of the 1994, but if there are serious drawbacks or even ones that just bug you, please let me know.

Thanks!

P.S. I've read this thread over a couple of times, and still can't make the decision, especially between the 1994 and the Cinema 7 IQ. Thx again.

If anyone else has some comments too, please let me know. Ciao!

They're cheap, buy both! I like the look and feel of the 1994 (I've played with it in the RS store, I haven't bought one - yet), and the backlighting is a nice plus. But I bought a C7 out of blind luck before I even discovered this web site and learned of the undocumented features.

I *really* like the feel of the C7 and it was my first 'child', so I'm biased towards that. I also got a non-learner brother of it, the OFA BigEasy HT. So I don't really need a 1994, I just want one...

Picked one up last night after getting excited reading about it here, getting another tonight. Does everything I've tried except my Pioneer VSX-465 Pro Logic receiver. The best i've been able to do is with 0013, but this misses a lot of functions and won't learn from the factory remote. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks to all for the help listed here!

I have both the Cinema 7 (learner) and the 1994. Like some here the decision had to be made as to which one to use. Made up my mind today. The 1994 has the 0269 SAT code which operates 75% of the functions on our Dishplayer 7100. This frees up over 20 learn keys for other things. Now if I could only get the X-10 part of it to work (lack of docs).

Got the second remote, set up the bedroom system in about 30 minutes including macros. Still having problems with the main system and the Pioneer VSX-454 receiver. None of the reciever codes for any brand in the manual work. Tried search, it only comes back with the amp codes of 0013 and 0300. This will power on and off, and allow me to change funtion. Cannot get advanced codes to work, and still won't learn from the factory remote. Help!

Cancel that call for help. All I had to do was experiment with distance and the 1994 took every funtion I needed to run. Even my girlfriend (not an A/V nut)is excited over the look and function of this remote. From what I've learned here, I'll have no problems adding the DVD player in a couple weeks. Thanks everyone.

Based on the comments from this site, I purchased a model 15-1994 remote control today at Radio Shack. I think it was well worth the $29.95 price.

A single remote now controls my home system, which includes:

Mitsibushi large screen TV
RCA DSS receiver
Toshiba DVD player
RCA VCR
Kenwood 209 Audio/Video receiver
Phillips WebTV receiver
Home X-10 controls

Where there used to be five remotes, now there is one. With the use of macros, a single button powers all up/down. Three other buttons auto select either DSS, Cable/WebTV, VCR, or DVD. There is now no more confusion among other household members on how to turn on the cable, etc…

I have also created a simple Web site for the 1994. It is located at:

[Link: websink.com]

It includes a summary of basic features and programming steps, links to other sites with current device codes, and a discussion area where user feedback, comments and questions can be entered.

I will revise the site based on any suggestions and/or comments from others.

Got my 15-1994 2 days ago and have got all my gizmos
working except for my Sony MDS-JB920 MiniDisc deck.
Anybody got any ideas or codes for making it work?

Thanks
Greg
