Does anyone know of a universal remote that will operate my Bose Lifestyle 30 receiver which needs RF and also has IR capability for all my Sony components?

David, I came here for the first time today with exactly the same question you had. I was almost afraid to ask since it looked like this site was filled with incredibly technical information that implied only brilliant engineering types would ever stop in! Seeing your post helped me believe that we "average" folk can also take advantage of the information here. I'll check back on your post in a day or two to see if anyone knows of a remote that will work for us (IR and RF/RC).

The only one that can help you is Bose by
1) creating a remote that does both
2) creating an IR->RF system
3) giving access to their codes to a third party so they can build 1 or 2

I have the same problem. I found the message below in another chat forum (Theatertouch). Have sent message to Bose asking for list of custom dealers. Keep you posted. By the way, if anyone knows what a CM-2 interface is please advise.

BOSE SELLS A CUSTOM INTERFACE THAT CONVERTS IR COMMANDS INTO RF FREQUECIES.THE INTERFACE COMES WITH A BOSE IR LIFESTYLE REMOTE CONTROL.THIS IS ONLY AVAILABLE TO CUSTOM BOSE DEALERS.THE INTERFACE IS CALLED THE CM-2.

Here's what Bose says:
At this time Bose does not have a product that will allow you to merge the operation of an RF and IR remote. Sorry we could not assist you with this request.

Thank you for choosing Bose Corporation.

I just spoke with Bose. They will soon be making available a Lifestyle 28 and 35 model that include a RF/IR remote, and indicated the IR would be programmable. It includes a DVD player also (but not Progressive Scan). I'm really looking for a way to use a programmable remote with a lifestyle 50, and I want progressive scan DVD, so that doesn't help me much. But they did provide a toll free number -- 877-633-4405 -- for the ID of Custom Bose Dealers. Haven't heard back from them yet, but I'm hoping there's a way to convert IR to their proprietary RF signal.

Daniel's review of the new Sony VL700 includes this line:

"...the VL700 - but the remote is also able to learn frequencies of up to 500kHz (most top out at 120kHz and would exclude the B&O brand) and code lengths of up to 250-bits."

It's good to find others with the same issue. I have lots of Sony Components (DVD, CD Changer, Sony TV, etc..) and a Bose Lifestyle 25 system. It seems I have many choices for "combined" remote for the Sony Components (Proto, Sony, etc..) however NONE of them will control the Bose system, so I am still stuck with two remotes. There must be a solution out there somewhere, please post if you have a "single remote" solution - thanks!

I received an official reply from Bose on 29 December. My initial question and their response is below:

Q: I hear rumors of a Bose Infrared/Radio Frequency converter that will allow Bose RF systems to understand signals from IR universal remote controls. Does this in fact exist? If so, where can I purchase one and how much is the suggested retail price? Thank you for your time and attention! -Bruce

Bruce,

The only RF remotes that would be able to operate the Lifestyle system start at about $1000.00. If you are interested in this type of remote, you might start with Crestron. Versatile but expensive.

Thank you for choosing Bose Corporation.

Hello,

There is a simple way to control Bose Lifestyle systems of any type using learning remote controls like the Pronto. If anyone is interested in learning how, please E-mail me directly.

Will the remotes made for the new lifestyle 28 & 35 work on older (ie lifestyle 25 & 30) bose systems. and if so do they offer more of a chance to control more than one divice with the bose remote?

Go to www.bluedo.com

They sell a unit that translates IR from most universal remotes to Bose RF (finally). It's called the 10-CM2 Bose RF Controller.

It sells for about $100.00 and works on all units except the LifeStyle-50. I understand that one will be available too.
