Mike ... That's the power of the internet. You have no right to tell Eric to leave. And for Greg, grownup!!!

TJ, thank you for your support. Mike, I don't have to leave and Greg, right back at ya!

In any event, I can se the point that Mike makes. I don't have to agree with it how ever. Let us take in to account that Sun Wave makes the remote and then Crisp Solutions puts their name on it. This is an effective business model. It is used all over the place. For instance Barco and Christiedigital (formally Electrohome) both make projectors. Both Barco and Christiedigital OEM for Runco. Runco "acts" like they make the product and take all the credit for how great they are.

Runco may even say that they make the product better, but I have seen both the Runco and the Barco equivalent, and I don't see any difference. The same thing applies here with the UCommand. Crisp Solutions does a great job at marketing, selling and customer service, but they don't build the darn thing.

Plus I have seen on SunWave's web site that they have an updated version of this remote. So, the UCommand is already out dated. Of course this always happens in electronics. The industry moves so fast. What is hot today, is old news in no time.

So, there you have it. Don't like it. Too bad!

Eric.

By the way, for any one interested, here is the web site for the new version of the remote I wrote about in my previous post.

Thanks,

Hello folks.
Thank you for your continued interest in our UCommand and instead of argueing, let's see what's new:

You can now purchase the UCommand for $99 and can enjoy the full product support without any bad feelings. Check out eTronixs and Actionblaster from our "Where To Buy" page: [Link: crispsolutions.com]

We are also continously extending our dealers list: [Link: crispsolutions.com]

The new product on the SunWave website is not a replacement for the UCommand. It is an addition in the product portfolio at a substantially higher price point. You will hear more about it later.

So long and Thanks,
Uli

Whooooaaa. I just went to the link specified in Eric's post to see what the what the improvements are and the first line was:
* "Advance touch panel, solves defect problem".
It's good to know that they solved the defect problem that they had on their origional but what was the problem and is it still a problem?

Eric: I've been away from this thread for a little while, and was surprised by my own post (07/16) when I came back. It can be seen by some of my posts in this thread and others that I believe in supporting those dealers who support you. That being said, it is totally up to the individual where they buy their equipment.

Most of all, I apologize for leaving that message to you and the less than mature way it was worded. - Greg

Uli,
After I posted the link to SunWave, It came to mind that the product displayed there just might be an advanced model and not a replacement for the UCommand.
Somewhat like a Honda Accord compared to a Honda Civic?
Greg, you appology is accepted. I understand how you feel. Don't think another thing about it.

Any way, I think we will all get a long here. Nothing like a healthy debate to get your blood going!

Eric.

Since this is where I first learned of the UCommand remote, I figured it would be a good idea to announce that DVD Shrine (http://www.dvdshrine.com) and Crisp Solutions are giving away three of these remotes for our August contest! The link is on the front page, and while you're there, checkout our review of the unit, as well as our other great reviews!

As far as I know Crisp will also be releasing that other model in the near future, as a new model (not a replacement to the UCommand). Which of course means a readable manual!

I'm throwing a flag here at Nate Thompson. Your review site seems to be an etailer site with a BUY button next to your review. Why not put that in the marketplace forum where it belongs?

The buy button is there so if you think you like the movie after reading our review, you can click there to buy it if you so wish. The retailer that it is linked to has a partnership with IGN.com and that is why we chose them. Of course, the buy button on the UCommand remote links directly to the CrispSolutions sales site so that you can use the rebate coupon we have listed at the bottom of the review.

Anthony:
The "defect problems" are related to the older versions. I can assure you that the UCommand has none.

Eric:
You are right, the advanced model (with the hard buttons) compares to the UCommand like a Porsche 928 to a Porsche 911. I prefer this comparison since both remotes configure so fast and are so responsive =8-)

Eric: Nope, you don't have to leave. It's just that there are at least a few readers of this Forum who would prefer that you do. It appears to some that you're just coming here to throw around conjecture, rather than fact (I quote you: "I have seen on SunWave's web site that they have an updated version of this remote. So, the UCommand is already out dated").

You also seem to have a need to prove to others, who don't even know you, that you are a shrewd shopper and that you pulled a fast one. What exactly are you gaining here? For that matter, what are you offering the rest of us?

I'll tell you what I think you're showing: a lack of respect for people in general, and business in particular. By bragging that you can buy a product at a few points savings, and enjoy free support at the other guy's expense... I see no difference between you and the software pirates, or anyone else who rips off a legitimate business.

So, to you and TJ, is that really the power of the Internet? A place where anyone can stand up freely and prove to the rest of the world that they actually have nothing to contribute? Well, go for it, men.

.... Mike

Mike Riley,

I guess I am going to have to respond to your post. First off, I had already conceded that the new remote that I saw on the Sun Wave site was not a replacement but a new remote that will be added to the line of remotes that Crisp’s Solutions will be selling.

To be more to the point, I will respond to particular questions and accusations in your post.

1. “What exactly are you gaining here? For that matter, what are you offering the rest of us?”
I was offering information. The truth that Sun Wave is the OEM for the remote and that you can find the same thing for less. Like I said, I was just giving out information. People can take it or leave it. I don’t care. I always like to know who is the real manufacture of the things I buy, and I though that every one who owned a UCommand would like to as well

2. “I'll tell you what I think you're showing: a lack of respect for people in general, and business in particular. By bragging that you can buy a product at a few points savings, and enjoy free support at the other guy's expense... I see no difference between you and the software pirates, or anyone else who rips off a legitimate business.”

Let me pick this one a part bit by bit. I don’t believe you were thinking first off. In fact I do have respect for people. I am a field service technician. I work with customers at companies like Boeing, Microsoft, Home Grocer.com just to name a few and can assure you, I have a great deal of respect for them. Now, as far a support is concerned from Crisp’s Solutions, apart from going to their site once to read about the product, I have not been back. In fact, I saw the remote I got in the MCM catalog first and recognized it as one that Rotel had sold in the past. I then went to remote central’s site to do more research. That led me to the Crisp’s Solutions web site. I knew that there had to be an OEM for the remote. I found Sun Wave’s site by typing the model number from the MCM catalog into my search engine and that led me to Sun Wave. Also, I was never bragging about getting this remote for less money. I again, was giving information that the remote was less expensive at MCM, nothing more. I also do not believe that I have ripped any one off. The information that I gave was out there already. I just passed it along here at this web site for any one who was interested and that is all.

3. “So, to you and TJ, is that really the power of the Internet? A place where anyone can stand up freely and prove to the rest of the world that they actually have nothing to contribute? Well, go for it, men.”

Well, you whole post added up to absolutely nothing, so, what did you contribute?

See you around the Forum Mike!

Eric Hamilton.
