Hi all,

I have read the good and the bad about this remote. The thing is, I need something like the 9800i and there is not much choice for what I want to do....

The IR mode should be able to control the BASIC functions of my:

- Toshiba LCD TV (32WL56P)
- Sony Surround Receiver (DAV SR-2)
- My DVD Player (Samsung HD 850)

I assume, this is no problem with the 9800i.

Now comes the difficult part:

I am running a NAS (Network Attached Storage - wich is basically are Network Harddrive that acts as my TWONKY Media Server with all my mp3 music, so I dont need to have a PC running 24/7.
I am streaming the mp3 to my Sony Surround Receiver wirelessly trough my NOXON 2 (Terratec)

Now comes my big question:

The NOXON 2 is fully UPnP compatible and I want to controll the songs played with the RC 9800i

I picture it this way:

- The RC 9800i will show my mp3 (on the NAS with TWONKY Media Server) on the display. I then serch the Album or Playlist (maybe even make a playlist in the 9800i?) and send the command to the NOXON 2. Will it play the songs in a row and can I skip trough the songs on the 9800i and the NOXON 2 will follow these commands?

I am currently trying this with a program called Rudeo Control on my WLan PPC. It works more or less, but it will only play one song (even when I choose a number of songs) and then stop. I then have to manually press play again to play the next song.

Remember, that I want this to work without having to use the Philips software as I don't want to run a PC all the time and my Media-NAS-Server is UPnP compatible.

I know this may be a very specific case, but I would appreciate some experienced feedback as the hotline does not really understand what I want to do, and I already RTFM and it does not clearify my question at all.

Cheers and T.G.I.F. ;-)

Marco

I will start with explaining my own setup. I have a readyNAS X6 with Twonky installed I own a philips streamium sl400i and a SLM5500. Moreover I have a Linksys wireless access point, widescreen tv, Harman & Kardon home cinema set and DVD player.

With the 9800i I can access my music on the NAS (pc is turned off) see all the media and select the song or play list and press the play button. The 9800i send the command over WIFI (so an access point is necessary) to the server and streamer and the music starts to play. On the 9800i I can switch to a screen where I can stop pause rewind or skip the song. This screen also shows the title of the song which currently plays. If the song is finished the next is automatically played. So far I think that this sound exactly how you would like it to work.

Now comes the part which explains why I cannot really answer your question. The above description works (quite perfectly), because the 9800 is designed to work with the sl400i and sl300i. Therefore it is not certain this will also work with your NOXON 2. For example I also own the SLM5500 from philips and although this one is newer than the sl400i it is supposing UpNp compatible it is not at all recognized by the 9800i. So even an UpNp network device from philips doesn't work with the 9800i!

The above described functionality is exactly why I choose the 9800i above other remotes, so if that doesn't work (for all UpNp devices) it is disappointing.

I assume, this is no problem with the 9800i.

Sometimes people have difficulty to get even the trivial stuff working on a 9800i, but indeed this should be no problem.

- The RC 9800i will show my mp3 (on the NAS with TWONKY
Media Server) on the display. I then serch the Album or
Playlist (maybe even make a playlist in the 9800i?)

Creating a play list on the 9800i is unfortunately not possible. You can play lists you've created on the pc and put on the NAS.

and send the command to the NOXON 2. Will it play the songs
in a row and can I skip trough the songs on the 9800i
and the NOXON 2 will follow these commands?

This is possible the 9800i sends UpNp commands over WiFi to control the server as well as the NOXON 2 device (if compatible with 9800i). This means you need a WIFI access point or router the supports wireless-b communication.

Hopefully this will make your decision easier.

I have the reverse problem.

I cannot get it to go to the next song on rc9800i. it either stops or repeat same song.

On rudeo, i can get it to go to next song.

I have dsm-320, with twonky 2.9.1
