Hi, I am new in this forum, having just got my RC98001. I friend of mine just brought it back from the states. I could be the first few people to have it in Malaysia

Overall it is a cool looking gadget, but I think Phillips miss the script.

They have resolved the Prontos complicated set up procedures and made the RC9800i very easy to start an activity like watch DVDs. and the auto macros is great. BUT they forget that most people love to/need to/have to make adjustments while watching DVDs. or any other activity .

It takes me at least 8 taps to change surround mode on my Receiver, for example.

Come on Phillips, you dont have to make it fully customisable- just the ability to rename soft buttons, remove those that are not needed from certain screens. Also to move the most commonly used buttons ( according to each user! - not what Phillips ) to the first page. No, we dont need fancy buttons or designer pages

It is just incredulous to have to page down 5 times to a "User Defined Funtion No 1- If at all I can remember what function did I programmed it for!!!!!!!!!.

By the way, I am what you call the sort of people that the RC9800 is targeted at - the not so serious HT user. I am not a custom installer or such. Still I find the complete lack of customisation as I have mention above, unbelievable for such a premium product.

So I hoping that Phillips will do the only thing sensible if they want to sell anymore of the remote.

Not sure what all the latest firmware does because there's no documentation; however, one thing I did notice is that it allows you to rename the custom function keys. Although this is not anywhere close to what you want and what is needed, it's at least a step in the right direction.

I agree that Philips needs to do what you requested and it's obvious that it can be done.

The renaming feature is not new! This was already possible in a previous firmware version.
