I'm totally suprised. Somehow just now i tried to add the SLA550 and it just worked. Absolute no clue why. However, no it turns up on the main display and when I want to select it it says:

offline: Philips SLA5500.

Well, foresure, the blue screen of the SLA500 is on and I can play music through it...

does anybody know what it means: Offline?

thanks again.

Roku Soundbridge.

Well good news for anyone interested in the Roku Soundbridge. I got a Soundbridge M1000 today and have tested its functionality with RC9800i. I'm pleased to report that basic UpNp functionality works. (as long as Roku firmware is at least 2.3.44). All the Soundbridges use the same firmware so I would expect functionality to be the same for the M500 and M2000 also. The IR auto learn did not work and I had to use a custom codeset and teach the RC9800 the buttons I was interested in. (I only use the Power on/off)

For those that do not have a Music adaptor its probably worth clarifying the RC9800i's very real limitations around UpNp. The Rc9800i does live up to the promise of being able to select a file from your media server and directing it to a media adaptor but that is all it will do.

For example if I choose to send a song to my Roku it will play that song and then stop. If I choose another song while playing a song it will play the newly selected song and stop when finished.

The RC9800i has no ability to mange the queue (current playlist). It should be able to add/ remove / re-arrange songs in the queue. The lack of this ability pretty much makes it useless as a companion for me while listening to my extensive music collection.

I 'm sure this could be corrected with a firmware update (anyone from Philips listening ?) Have a look at the Sonos Interface as this is also a Linux device with similar specs I have no idea why Philips (Openpeak) could not aim for this.

For now I find it much more rewarding to control the Roku directly or through Cidero's UpNp controller software on my laptop where I can manage the queue.

i JUST got my RC9800i today. i'll reserve my impressions for another thread at a later time. briefly, while many of the features are VERY impressive, i am only half pleased due to some rather odd limitations.

what i really want to mention here, per the topic title, is that i was able to get the streaming features to work with my D-link DSM-320 for both videos and audio. audio streaming is terrific. i don't have to worry about having my TV on to browse and select songs. however, there is a little quirk with the video streaming...there is no way to get rid of the D-Link's built-in user interface. if anyone had better luck, tricks, or advice on this, please do share.

one personal thought...besides philips' media adapter, i haven't seen any other adapter WITHOUT built-in control UI and without some sort of media manager. only some of the old ones remain (like the linksys WMA11B....anyone had experiences with this product?)

Hey Mythaeus,

Thanks for your feedback. I kinda thought DSM-320 would work because I've read elsewhere it is mostly UpNP compliant. I'm thinking about getting their next model...the 520 so that boades well anyway.

As to your issue with the interface persisting it seems that is a problem for others also. Over in the Nevo SL(similar wifi remote) thread a guy with a 320 mentioned the same problem. May wanna watch over there too.

I would guess that is something that Dlink would have to address through some update.

What might be helpful for diagnosis is Cidero's control point software. From a PC on the same network you can see your UpNP devices and see the UpNp calls and responses in a debug window. You could check to see if there is a difference in the behaviour if a file is sent by Cidero or by the RC9800i. Just a thought...but its also kinda fun. Also shows you what Philips should do.

Just curious...if you select a mp3 using your 9800 and send it to your dlink...what happens after the song ends ? Next song in folder ? Playback stops ?

hi davidsed,
this was going to be my follow up to the list of limitations and annoyances. it just stops!!! WT...X! this is going to ruin my party.

as for the persisting UI, i don't know if D-link will do anything about it as i don't think it was intended to just stream via a separate device controller. thanks for the link to the other forum.

I disagree with this. With my setup it plays the next song in the folder

I have:

Hopefully DLink will eventually fix this - in the meantime,
one cheesy workaround is to display a picture via the DLink remote (or DLink IR commands programmed into your RC9800i). This clears off the UI, then you can send videos via the UPnP interface.

(At least my recollection is this worked ok with the previous
firmware release for the DSM-320)

And how do you add songs to the que ? Via the SLA5500 interface right ? My point is this should be a capability of the RC9800i.

Ie on the RC9800 i you should be able to see the song currently playing (that works now). And the Songs forthcoming in the queue. Furthermore you should be able to add / delete / re-arrange songs in the queue.

Of course I can do this directly via the Roku interface and that works perfectly but I'd prefer to do it sitting on the couch browsing music with my RC9800i.

I would think playing the next song in the queue is a function of the media server software and not the adapter?
