I was hoping to get some info re media adapters that have been tested either successfully or unsuccessfully with the RC9800i.

If people could share their experiences with media adaptors they own I'd appreciate it. I'm hoping to use the info to help decide what adaptors to buy for myself.

Thanks !

Streamium sl400i, is tested successfully. It does exactly what Philips promises at www.homecontrol.philips.com. Setting up the device needs a small work around (see [Link: remotecentral.com]), but after this minor bug it does what it suppose to do.

The Philips SLA 5500 works, but you need to upgrade the Adapters firmware. Works great but have to turn the Windows firewall off.

Wow well that is relief to know that the SLA5500 will work. I got in a rant in another thread because one of the RC9800i team said it was not compatible.

Maybe I will buy one then to play around with and see if I like it....then maybe buy more for other rooms. They are relatively inexpensive compared to other music only adaptors.

Can you confirm the firmware version you are using ? Maybe you are even using the Noxon firmware ? I know the SLA5500 is just a Terratec Noxon repackaged in Philips branding.

I know you can browse media on the RC9800i and send it to the SLA5500 but then I'm curious after that...with the RC9800i can you see the status of the SLA5500...that is what is currently playing ?

Thanks allot !

I don't know the firmware off hand, but it is just the latest one from the Philips support site. As far as how it works, there really is no in interface with the SLA5500's display. It stays eaxactly as if it were not being used, but you scroll through the media on the 9800i just like you were browsing the PC and then placing it back in the cradle for playback. The difference is you do not have to put it back in the cradle (which means your cradle can be on the side of the room you sit, rather than where the stereo is).

terpsrno1: I have been trying to add the SLA5500 but I just don't get it. Can you explain the steps that you did in a bit more detail? How do you browse media on the RC9800i and send it to the SLA5500? If I brouwse the media on my computer the RC9800i will play it and I need to but it in the cradle.

In the menu, you choose and then...which option do you choose, i.e. which device you ?

or is it something else?

many thanks

Hi Floris,

You have to setup the SLA as a media adaptor first...then it will be available as an activity after setuo :

From the Main Menu choose
>Settings
>Rooms & A/VDevices
>Add/Edit A/V Devices
>Select the Room where your SLA5500 is (Living Room ?)
>Click Add
>Choose Media Adaptor
(OK now the cool part)
All UpNp Media Adaptors on your subnet should be listed
>Choose SLA5500
>Choose Learn and Match for the IR setup
>Click On Activities and Choose Listen to Media with SLA5500

From now on in the activities list for the Lving room there should be Listen....you can choose source of PC and then you will browse your media as normal. When you select a song it will be sent to the SLA.

I don't have that exact media adaptor but that is the setup procedure.

Let us know if that works !

Cheers

Thanks, I was afraid you would give this answer. When you choose Media adapter, the and click search button my network is searched but no adaptor shows up on the network. I'm using the latest european firmware v2.0.b078d. As mentioned already on the Forum by others, Philips says the don't support the device..... can there be a difference between the US and EU firmware....

has anybody in Europe succeeded tot add the SA5500 device?

Davidsed is exactly correct on how to set up the adapter under "Listen". The problem you are having is most likely a Windows Firewall issue. Not an aftermarket firewall, but the one Windows uses. I struggled with this for a week. Turned off the Windows firewall, and it showed up. I use Norton firewall, and there is no problem.

Terpsrno1, I followed Davidsed steps. Those are exactly what I would do.

I tried turning the firewall off. nothing. restarted XP with the firewall off, nothing. Maybe it is the WEP incryption...I try turning it off later and see if the SLA550 gets recognised. Either that or it is the firmware difference between US en EU?

I hope people keep posting their experience.

cheers

Hi,
UPnP wise there is no difference between the US and European version. Please make sure you have the latest firmware installed on the SLA5500, since earlier versions are not that compatible with RC9800i (may work, but then not stable, etc...)
I could not check yet myself with the latest SLA5500 firmware, but as soon as I can do, I will let you know the results.

Regards,
Luukske

Luukske, the firmware listed on the Philips site says: 2.0.78.

In the remote it says:v2.0.b078d.

I guess I will update the remote.

thanks

Right, I upgraded. (the USB cable really really does not attach well in the device it took some force inserting before XP actually found the device..), but it found my SLA5500!!! wonderfull :) thanks everyone for the help!

Ok, I decided to do reinstall the whole remote, so I pressed , and upon startup and installed the new firmware...My fimware is now 2.0.b078m (it was v2.0.b078d). When I try to add the SLA5500, it is again not detected.
I'm completely at loss here..(I have turned off the windows firewall)

Luukske, any thoughts?
