programming it? i've been on the phone with philips a bunch of times and the answer a lot of the time is well the products new. i found one guy ryan who knew what he was talking a bout but i cant get him. my remote doesnt allow me to add an activity for a device (like watch cable) that it should. i think the problem is that my cable box is also a DVR but i get no explanation from philips. i solved the problem once by resetting and re-adding the devices. but i just added a new room and it wont let me set up the watching tv activity (its not one of the choices, i have watch dvd, listen to radio but not watch tv as one of my choices.

Yes,yesterday I had Philips support on the line but they were not any help. Their first suggestion on the following problem was to insert the code via PC.........
I have a Dreambox multimedia DM7020 with aa harddisk, in the RC9800I the manufacture is showing, but when you try to add it it ,it says that it havent any codes for this manufacture (I both try to add it with and with out the product code). How come Dream multimedia is showing if it hasent any codes for it in the database.......

Dear Neil,
Can you please send a mail to support(at)rc9800i(dot)com, so that I am able to get more information on your problem & hopefully give you the solution?

Dear Urte,
Although the Dreambox brand is in the list, unfortunately this does not mean that also all codesets are in for that type of device. If the "learn & match", "autoscan" and "select & try" options do not work, it is still possible to add a Custom codeset, and learn every button with the original remote ("Select &try", choose "Custom" and you will be directed to the screen where you can learn the buttons).

Regards,
Luuk (Support RC9800i)

sure. but i spent another frustrating hour on the phone with tech support today and they knew nothing. if you look up my record (i'll send it via email) you will see that numerous people have tried to help me i've sent the remote in twice and been told that there is no problem, but there is. the problem boils down to this: in the area where you add activities there is supposed to be a list of activities to add (they are listed in the manual) i am given the choice of adding "watch a dvd", "listen to radio" etc. just not the two i want (and they are in the manual) that is "watch TV" "watch pvr event"

Urte,
Buttons that are useful to have, but not needed for every day use, can be learned as "user defined buttons". Those buttons are then accessable through the "individual device control" screen.

After I waited for almost 1 year on the RC9800i to be released in Europe I finally managed to get one. First impression, look and feel, was great but ran into loads of problems quickly.

1) After the initial setup I was not able to add anymore devices. No matter what I tried I could not fix this problem and had to reset the device.
2) The procedure for resetting the device (i.e. returning to the original state of the device) didn't execute properly. The device freezed!
3) When I switched the device off and on I was not able to select the European region anymore.
4) Most remote controls were not recognised.
5) Activities that I could select were limited and didn't work correct (problem with input selection).
6) Adding a Cable Receiver was not succesfull. The remote control didn't recognise it as a TV source.

To make a long story short... I returned the remote control as I don't want to become a test-user. Philips fix your software problems!

You mean they actually AGAIN missed the ball on another remote and sold it before the software was anywhere near gold state ? I ordered mine some days ago, if it turns out to be crappy, then I swear I never buy another philips product anymore...they just can't go around selling stuff and hope they'll get it in the firmware upgrades, that's just f*cking with ppl imo.

i think that is my problem also. it's not recognizing the cable dvr as a tv source so it doesn't give me the choice to watch tv. really a pain

Hi Neil,

I had this problem too.I found out that if you try and link the same device to different activities it doesnt work.I couldn´t for example watch a dvd on the projector and also link the same DVD player to the TV to simply Watch DVD on TV.
The solution is quite simple.Add your TV or DVD to the RC98001 twice.I set up my DVD and TV with the identities DVD2 and TV2.I was then able to set up the activity "watch DVD on TV" without coming into conflict with "Watch DVD on Projector".
I hope that helps. Its a pain I know but takes only a bit of time.

i was able to "fool" the device to allow me to watch TV by adding my cablevision hi def DVR as a regular cable box. however i now cant control activities. so if your system works i have to have a different DVR button and switch between the two? a royal pain...

Does anyone know if there are any 'customizable buttons' that are available for the 9800i, as there are for the 7000u either via freeware or purchase?
