Hi all.

First post here. Please forgive my english mistakes !

I've recently aquired the 9800i, to replace my no-so-wife-friendly RC5000

The IR range is quite weak, compared to the Marantz RC5000 (pronto). I have to aim toward the devices very precisely. Also, the screen is not as sensitive as my old RC5000 was, and the physical left buttons have to be pressed very hard.

I've had the worst difficulties to program buttons that need to be pushed a long time (to switch off my projector, for example). As a matter of fact, I still do not know how to do.

I cannot find a way to rename the user buttons. Furthermore, they are so far in the screens order that they are frequently useless. A direct access to the individual devices screen should be present in the left buttons (instead of the totaly useless "home" button)

I have a media center PC I wanted to add. But it seems that the 9800i WANTS a TV set or a projector to be present in the setup. There is no way to have an activity (listen or watch) with only the HTPC and the receiver. It seems hat the 9800i doesn't understand that a Media Center PC generaly comes with a computer screen.

The Videoprojector setup has a bug. The 9800i asks for all the sources and asks a name for every one of them, but these customed buttons aren't used on the projector screen in the "watch" activity. Instead, some pre-programmed buttons appear, with no possibility to change or label them.

Also, the useless buttons (that have no codes attached to them) should be erased. They are frequently confusing for someone who doesn't know the exact setup. Which is quite surprising, for a user-friendly remote wannabe.

I think it would be SO useful to have a small PC software, pronto like, to correct the glichtes, move some buttons, erase others and so on. Maybe some genius wizkid could program something with the open source code delivered on the CD ?

More to come.

Bye

Hi everyone

I posted my message on the Philips 9800i forum, and had a quick response of the support team.
I guess it can be of interest, so here it is.

Bye

Dear Bragon,
Thanks for your extra information:
I was able to re-create the problem with the projector and the MC PC listen activity. Until now we had the opinion that a Media Center PC always needed a screen, and that this screen always was the same in both the listen and watch activity. I made a request to change this in future firmware updates.

The fact that the sources of the projector do not show up is indeed a bug. Until it has been solved, you can workaround this, by learning those source buttons under the EXT1, EXT2, EXT3 buttons or the user buttons, which are then available in the individual device control screen of the projector.

There is no plan to release a PC software for the RC9800i, however we are currently working on more customization of the Remote. Changeable names of the user buttons is one of those.

At this moment I cannot tell you when we are able to release a firmware update. We are facing some delay due to software instability of the new version, and this has to be solved first. As soon as a date is known I will put it at the RC9800i's forum.

Kind regards,
Philips Support RC9800i.
