I haven't seen anything about being able to replace the battery in the RC9800i, is it possible? Or do we simply toss the remote once the battery won't hold a charge anymore?

It is such a well designed battery that it will last forever ;-).
You probably have to return the remote to the service center, where they hopefully are still able to replace the battery (at what cost?).
At the other hand when the battery is gone we can justify buying a new remote to our wifes!
