de pampi, any advise?

everything seems to be working ok, i can get a list of the shared(watch folders) on the unit, but when i press play nothing happens. i set up the dsm-520 as a media adaptar(upnp), it just doesnt seem to be talking to the dsm. i saw in another post something about a wireless access point, i just have wireless router, do i need to buy a wireless access point? if so, how can i set that up?

also, maybe a run down of how to set it up correct to hit play on the remote and it play on the tv via the dsm-520. do i have to run the pmm and dsm software or just the pmm, or just something like twonky.

You don't need a wireless access point, a wireless router will do fine. You can use every UpNp server there is for example Tversity, Twonkyvision, PMM or dsm software(if it is UpNp). I would suggest try several servers.

If you see the list of servers do you see the PMM as well as the dsm server?

I use several servers i.e. Twonky Tversity and PMM and they all work.

Best regards,

well, yes, i can get the list of servers alright. i can stream mp3s fine. my problem is when i play a video, the dsm User Interface(list of folders) stays on the screen and all i can hear is the audio from the video file played.

i have read some posts where others have had this problem, and i cant find a fix for it. If anyone else has had this problem lemme know if it can be fixed.

all firmware is up to date as well, and the display picture on the dsm then hit play on a video on the rc9800i just locks up dsm-520 and i have to unplug it.

I saw an option on the dsm-520 in the settings, something like Use another device, and the other option is Remote Control. would this be something to change?

The problem here is probably the dsm-520. This device must support the remote rendering command (UpNp command). If it does not It won't work. Although UpNp is a universal protocol, a company which develops a UpNp device is not always implementing all the commands. I would suggest to report this to dsm and then they might (hopefully) implement this in the new firmware.

One question, have you tried cidero ([Link: cidero.com])? If that works the problem lays with the 9800i

this is so annoying(big surprise). it is definently the dsm-520, guess i need to contact their support. I have now found that when i hear the audio i can hit menu back and 50% of the time itll play, the other 50% it goes black and the dsm locks up and i have to physically unplug it.

another thing i have noticed is that sometimes when browsing on the rc9800i(off the media server) it'll stay in a dir, like it wont change directory or go back.

is there a way to go back to the initial select server screen? The only workaround i have found is that sometimes i can go into the network setup on the rc9800i and have it redetect, but most of the time i have to power it off then on to be able to browse again.

What firmware version do you use? I have found out that the latest 2.0.80 suffers much more from hangs and has also worse WIFI reception. I use the 2.0.78 and that one is quite stable. I can't remember the last reset, while when I use the latest firmware I had to do a reset at least once a week.

Were you able to contact D-Link support on this issue, and if so any response as yet?

misfitzx138... any advise on what you did to get it to play music? I set mine up and nothing happens when I hit play???

I'm using a similar configuration, except I have the DSM-320. I am trying to play Rhapsody music from my PC on my stereo via the DSM-320. I can see Rhapsody in the UpNP list, and can see all my stations, songs etc, but when I hit play, nothing happens???
