i am thinking of purchasing an rc9800i. i have read the threads and the problems. What i want to do is just to be able to control my cable box(dct6200 hd-dvr) supplied by comcast, a reciever, samsung hd tv and dvd player. i want to be able to stream mp3s, divx, mpeg etc from my computer via wifi. I understand i also need to hook up a station to my reciever/tv, something like the sli300i or something like it.

first off, what station should i get(~$200)?
second, as i understand it, i will be able to get a directory tree on the remote and i will be able to hit play on the remote and it will come up on the tv and reciever?
third, any known issues with my current cable box? or any other resources i can use to find out?
fourth, any other setups i can use to accomplish those goals? wired connections are out of the question.

The sl300i (the same holds for the sl400i) has quite some issues regarding video playback. Videos with high bit rates (often the case) won't play smoothly and shutter. The successor the slm5500 has no problems with high bit rates but has other issues such as: it is not recognized by the 9800i, doesn't play srt subtitles and won't stream the correct ac3 stream through the coax (only stereo PCM signal) see the www.streamiumcafe.com forum for an extensive overview of the issues.

There are many stations which won't have the issues, for example media streamers build around the sigma chipsets. Also be aware that the remote 9800i still has issues which unfortunately aren't fixed yet and probably won't be fixed in the future. There hasn't been a firmware upgrade since we (the users) reported them.

Best regards,

No the SLM5500 doesn't work well indeed. In fact it isn't even recognized by the slm5500. I don't know which third party media streamer works well with the 9800i.
