Many of you have helped me out in the past and I'm hoping that some of you can figure this out. My Pronto TSU7000 has been up and running for several months now. It's been working great along with the 6000 repeater. All of my components work great except for my Directv H-10 HDTV satellite box. The box will miss about 50% of the commands sent from the remote. For example, if I were to push the channel up button on the Pronto 100 times the box might actually channel up 40 or 50 times. Entering a 3-digit channel number is near impossible and guaranteed not to happen. If I wanted to enter the channel 555 I would have to hit the 5 button at least 15 times. Please keep in mind that this is only with the satellite box, none of my other components. Okay, now for some details: 1. I switched off the RF and went back to IR. Nothing changed. 2. There is a clean line of sight from the remote to the box. 3. Distance from the remote to the box didn't change anything. 4. For some reason, the macro commands all work fine. ?? 5. I tried re-setting the remote, nothing changed. 6. I re-learned all of the SAT codes in a dark room to ensure clean codes. Here are some samples of the codes. POWER 0000 006C 0001 000A 00E6 002E 002E 002E 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 002E 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 002E 0017 002E 0017 048C 0073 002B CHANNEL UP 0000 006C 0001 000A 00E7 002E 002E 002E 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 002E 002E 0017 002E 002E 0017 002E 0017 0017 048C 0073 002B CHANNEL DOWN 0000 006B 0001 000A 00E9 002E 002E 002E 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 002E 002E 002E 0017 002E 0017 002E 002E 0017 0499 0074 002C DIGIT 5 0000 006C 0001 000A 00E6 002F 002F 002F 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 002F 0017 002F 0017 002F 0017 0017 0017 048C 0073 002B 7. Battery is fully charged. 8. Tried changing the ID and channel codes on the repeater to several different combinations. (Although, I don't think the repeater is the problem). 9. I’ve add delays before and after the learned code, nothing changed. 10. I’ve increased durations in increments of .05 all the way to 1.5 sec. and nothing changed. 11. I’ve tried learning the codes while doing a single press AND by holding down the button while it learns. Didn't change. 12. I’ve noticed that if I press a button on the Pronto " s l o w l y" and hold it down it will take. 13. Nothing in the system has changed. I’ve added nothing to the system nor taken anything away. No new appliances, lamps, TV’s, etc. 14. And finally, the original remote that came with the SAT box works great 100% of the time. It's been getting worse every day and soon will not be able to operate the SAT box at all. I really love this remote but it's driving me nuts. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

I had precisely the same experience. It is documented in a thread I posted here several months ago at [Link: remotecentral.com]. One day the problem cleared up by itself. I can only surmise that it had something to do with "burning in" the IR circuitry. Sometimes new equipment needs a burn-in period before working to spec. How old is your HD10-250? If less than 3 months old, give it time. Meantime you can experiment with delays. I found that helped a little bit. After it started working reliably, however, I got rid of all the delays and it works as it should.

Try playing with your emitter placement. The signal reaching the box may be too "hot" and by moving the emitter to the side of the ir window or farther away in front of the unit it may help. I recently opened up some H20s and glued the emitters onto the IR window inside the unit. I haven't tried prontos with this setup yet but the Elan touchpanels seem to work flawlessly like this. Good Luck. BTW mburwen, I think he has just an H10 not an HR10-250. The H10 is the non tivo high def box and the H20, which I refer to, is the new version of the H10 that works with the 5 LNB dish.

He called it an H10 HDTV, so I just assumed it was the 250. Regardless, I think I saw posted here that the TiVo and non-TiVO models hav the same IR signals for the non TiVO commands.

Thanks for the replys. Actually, the box is an H-10 non TiVo. The funny thing is, the box is about 2 years old while the Pronto is almost a year old. Everything worked fine until recently. ?? Stil stumped.

Try moving the emitter away from the eye of the HD box just to the side. Had the same problem and that worked. The H10 is known to get flooded with IR.

Thanks, Grego, but I don't believe it is a repeater problem as I've already switched the remote back to IR and nothing has changed. I've played with angles and distances but it doesn't seem to work. It's getting to the point where I have to use the DirecTv remote if I want to change channels reliably. I don't understand it. My receiver (Denon), VCR (Panasonic), DVD player (Toshiba), TV (Hitachi) all work excellent. Go figure!

Place the emiiter about 2 CM down from the receiver window. Then put black electircal tape over the 6000s Main Blaster. Curred it for more than a few of my installs.

Oops. I probably forgot to mention, I'm not using the emitters. I tried them at first but they absolutely did not work on the SAT box. Again, I don't believe it is a repeater issue because the Pronto has been switched to IR and the problem persists. Maybe I should try re-installing the latest firmware??

But when they learn a signal, they don't take that into account. They often detect and store a repeat boundary at a point they can't reproduce. You can rotate a Pronto Hex sample adding a copy of part of the repeat section into the one time section. That should result in a signal that an NG Pronto can transmit correctly. In this case, I regenerated clean rotated signals with MakeHex, rather than manually rotating them. Try these: POWER 0000 006C 000A 000A 00E7 002E 002E 002E 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 002E 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 002E 0017 002E 0017 0481 0073 002E 002E 002E 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 002E 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 002E 0017 002E 0017 0481 CHANNEL UP 0000 006C 000A 000A 00E7 002E 002E 002E 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 002E 002E 0017 002E 002E 0017 002E 0017 0017 0481 0073 002E 002E 002E 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 002E 002E 0017 002E 002E 0017 002E 0017 0017 0481 CHANNEL DOWN 0000 006C 000A 000A 00E7 002E 002E 002E 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 002E 002E 002E 0017 002E 0017 002E 002E 0017 0481 0073 002E 002E 002E 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 002E 002E 002E 0017 002E 0017 002E 002E 0017 0481 Digits 1 to 9 0000 006C 000A 000A 00E7 002E 002E 002E 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 002E 0017 0017 0017 002E 0017 0481 0073 002E 002E 002E 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 002E 0017 0017 0017 002E 0017 0481 0000 006C 000A 000A 00E7 002E 002E 002E 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 002E 0017 0017 0017 002E 0017 0017 0481 0073 002E 002E 002E 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 002E 0017 0017 0017 002E 0017 0017 0481 0000 006C 000A 000A 00E7 002E 002E 002E 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 002E 002E 0017 0017 002E 002E 0017 0481 0073 002E 002E 002E 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 002E 002E 0017 0017 002E 002E 0017 0481 0000 006C 000A 000A 00E7 002E 002E 002E 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 002E 0017 0017 0017 0017 002E 002E 0017 0481 0073 002E 002E 002E 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 002E 0017 0017 0017 0017 002E 002E 0017 0481 0000 006C 000A 000A 00E7 002E 002E 002E 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 002E 0017 002E 0017 002E 0017 0017 0017 0481 0073 002E 002E 002E 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 002E 0017 002E 0017 002E 0017 0017 0017 0481 0000 006C 000A 000A 00E7 002E 002E 002E 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 002E 002E 0017 0017 002E 0017 002E 0017 0481 0073 002E 002E 002E 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 002E 002E 0017 0017 002E 0017 002E 0017 0481 0000 006C 000A 000A 00E7 002E 002E 002E 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 002E 002E 002E 0017 002E 002E 0017 0017 0481 0073 002E 002E 002E 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 002E 002E 002E 0017 002E 002E 0017 0017 0481 0000 006C 000A 000A 00E7 002E 002E 002E 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 002E 0017 0017 0017 0017 002E 002E 0017 0017 0481 0073 002E 002E 002E 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 002E 0017 0017 0017 0017 002E 002E 0017 0017 0481 0000 006C 000A 000A 00E7 002E 002E 002E 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 002E 0017 0017 002E 0017 002E 002E 002E 0017 0481 0073 002E 002E 002E 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 0017 002E 0017 0017 002E 0017 002E 002E 002E 0017 0481

johnsfine, these codes worked great. I now get about a 98% response from the remote. Thanks again for the help. Where can I go to learn about these code structures?

I now get about a 98% response from the remote. I would expect to do better than 98%. Maybe you need to also set a minimum duration for the signals. Or maybe something else in the Pronto Hex needs to be tweaked. What about the other commands? I deduced the other digits one through nine from digit five, but I wasn't sure what the digit zero would be. I expect there are also other commands you use that you didn't include in this thread. I was expecting follow up questions about those assuming the codes I posted worked.
Where can I go to learn about these code structures? The basics of Pronto Hex are described in Barry Gordon's document at [Link: remotecentral.com]From that, you should be able to understand what I did to your Pronto Hex samples and how the modified ones specify essentially the same signals as the unmodified ones. But there is no documentation on advanced concepts, such as WHY I made that change or why an NG Pronto incorrectly generates the signal specified by the unmodified version but correctly generates the same signal specified by the modified version.

Yes, I was going to ask you about "0" and some other commands but didn't want to be bothersome. My main concern at the moment was with the numeric keypad. I'll have to give the "0" a try when I get home and see how it reacts. The durations are set at the Pronto default of .01 sec. I experimented with these but didn't get good results. As far as the other commands are concerned they aren't used very often or they are part of a macro command (which always worked great). I wondered how it was possible that the macro channel inputs always worked but the direct input was very spotty. I tried reading Barry Gordon's document but soon realized that I needed to refresh my binary numbers skills. It got ahead of me real quick. It is something that I am interested in, though, and plan on studying it in my spare time. Thank you, again.

John can you post the numbers you used for makehex to generate the above codes. I would like the complete set with guide, arrows, etc. I don't have the box personally, but I have clients with them that the remote works most of the time but not a 100%. I'll try generating the rest and try them next time I'm at one of their houses. Or, if its faster could you post the complete set? Whichever you prefer. Thanks,
