Hi everyone,

I am looking for the discrete codes for a Sony Tivo, SVR-2000. Specifically I am looking for the On/Off codes. Thanks

Depending on the command mode you need, you can use the codes found here.

[Link: hifi-remote.com]

To use the data on this link, you should download and become familiar with MakeHex.EXE from the Pronto Files Section.

You will need to edit the file Sony20.irp and replace the following data

Device=26.154 ;Command Mode 1 for Tivo?
Function=46..47 ; 0x2E and 0x2F (hexadecimal).

Bookmark this link as if you have lots of Sony equipment and can learn to use Makehex.exe, this link saves you mucho time.

From a command line.

Run makehex.exe sony20.irp.

Then, using Notepad.exe open the file sony20.hex and cut and paste the IR code data for 46 and 47.

ok I dont think I am doing this right..... I open up a comand prompt window and try to run makehex.exe but nothing happens. I can run "edit sony20.irp" and the blue screen opens and allows me to change items and save them... but I can't run the actual makehex.exe program.... any suggestions?

ok I got the program to work I think, but the codes are not working... I got it to change a few of the characters in the hex code depending on what values I edited in the .irp file prior to creating the hex file... but still not luck. :(

On that web site it says "Sony TiVo (26.154; 26.162; 26.170)"

The convention for that site is the ";" between different device numbers means that whole command set might have any one ofthose different numbers depending on either model or some internal setting.

That should mean your device might be 26.162 or 26.170 instead of 26.154.

If you have any learned signal for the same device, we could examine the Pronto Hex for that and determine whether it is Sony20 as expected and which of those three device numbers.

You also might want to post one of the hex strings you created with MakeHex so we can tell whether there is still an error in the way you're running MakeHex.

Here is the code that was learned from the Tivo remote for the power both on/off (Tivo has one button for both, hence the problem)

0000 0067 0000 0015 0060 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0030 021C

here is the Makehex result that I got

Device Code: 26.154 Function: 46
0000 0068 0000 0015 0060 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0030 01DE
Device Code: 26.154 Function: 47
0000 0068 0000 0015 0060 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0030 01C6

I did this with 26.154, 26.162, 26.170.... but none of them work thus far. So I figure that I am doing something wrong. Thanks for all the assistance, I am determined to make this work.

That is device 26.154, command 21

Those were correct and now we know 26.154 is correct, so that leaves:

1) You didn't copy it correctly from the .hex file into the right place in ProntoEdit,

or 2) Your model of Sony Tivo doesn't respond to discrete power commands.

or 3) You didn't test it properly after loading it into the Pronto.

As a check on (1) and (3) you could try some of the other functions from the web page mentioned above. If those work then (1) and (3) become unlikely, leaving (2).

1) I cut and pasted it to the "custom IR code" portion of the power on button for the Tivo screen... same as I did for the TV on it's screen..

3) I used the "test IR" button, but nothing happend, I then switched to the upper protion of the page "IR code from universal database" and selected "VCR/TIVO/Codeset-0663/power on" and tested that IR code, Tivo Turned on and off with that command.

2) I tried the same process with the "List tv guide" command using "Function=115" and cut/pasted the hex code into the Pronto screen, tested it and it worked fine..... then tried the power on/off "Function 46..47" again, no dice.... grrrrrrrrrr

Maybe you should search the discrete forum and/or repost there, making clear that it is a Sony Tivo question.

You now know how to use MakeHex correctly and how to get information from that website of Sony codes. Probably your model just doesn't respond to discrete power commands.

But maybe someone else knows some important detail about the Sony Tivo that we're missing, so maybe there is some way to do what you want.

Thank you very much for trying to help me out and taking the time to explain things to me. I will report there, and will keep looking for the answer. If I figure it out, I will make a post so others who need this info can find it. Thanks again. :)
