Running ProntoProEdit NG 2.1.8.0 on Windows XP Pro (via Parallels VM on a MacBook Pro). PPENG had run for several years without problems until the computer's battery had to be disconnected while in for repair.
________________________________________

Initially the warning was that a driver was missing but that stopped after we uninstalled PPENG using the proper Windows Uninstall procedure and reinstalling.

We closed Windows and relaunched it along with PPENG; tried to upload data from Pronto RU990 and got this message:
“(ProntoProEdit NG) Device is not connected properly. Please check the connection.” Anything else we try brings up the same message.

We have tried using a different USB cable and both worked with other devices as well as the Pronto, so it seems the cable is good and that the problem is in the software.

From RC's troubleshooting FAQs:
"4 - The remote’s communications chip has locked up (sometimes occurs during code learning through ProntoEdit NG) – reboot the remote by pressing the RESET button on the back.”
Tried that and got audible response from computer, so it seems the physical connection is OK but still got the "not connected" warning.

We had also remembered to go to “Devices/USB/Philips Vendor specific”

We’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling more than once as well as everything else we can think of, so any other suggestions would be gratefully received.

The only thing I can think of under XP would be to reinstall/update the driver.

The link below will point you to a post which references a thread I put together years ago but I suspect you may have already found this..

Lyndel, thank you so much. Firstly for moving this thread to the right forum (blush!) and secondly for the link which we had not found. Had a quick look over breakfast coffee, but it's one I need to read carefully and work through just as carefully, since our sole use of Windows is for the Pronto...

I'll let you know how we get on.

Thanks again  (virtual 'cheers' smilie here!)

Hi Lyndel, got it up and running.

It took a bit of work finding bits, especially when we were asked to insert the install disk. We've moved house twice since we got the Pronto and - inevitably - we can find no trace of it. I've never really got the hang of Windows' search facility, but searching via the Mac found all the files MS doesn't want you to know about :-)

Anyway, without your info, we would never have tracked down the correct files, and it was a wonderful moment when that little graphic of the connection cord showed it was uploading.

For anyone else looking for Lyndel's crib-sheet, it is post No. 3 on this thread:

Many thanks again, not just for this but for the time and effort you give in providing your knowledgable responses.
