Dear Group,
I am writing for the first time from New Zealand in an attempt to obtain advice about my Philips Pronto remote.

This remote has been in use for approximately 10 years in association with our family home theatre system. The remote is designated on the label as:
"Pronto Pro SBC RU 980/00", but I am informed that it is also known as "Pronto Pro NG".

We are about to introduce new components to our longstanding home theatre system, and I wanted to explore the possibility of re-programming our Pronto remote to accommodate this. i have never attempted to manipulate the settings of the remote before, beyond simple manoeuvres such as adjusting the date and time. The original programming and design of the screens, etc, were done by the technician who installed our home theatre, and he is no longer on the scene. I have a copy of the written instruction manual.

Daniel Tonks has kindly directed me to the appropriate Pronto Edit software available through this website, which I thought might be the key to learning how to re-programme my own remote. However, when I downloaded the software, I noted that it was only compatible with a Windows 98 system. I am running Windows 10.

I wonder if anyone can advise me how I might approach the challenge of re-programming this old remote. Since there are obviously still devoted users, despite the fact that it is a dated model, suggests that there might be some way in which the "Windows 98" software can still be used or adapted. I would be most grateful for any guidance or suggestions from the community.

Regards,
Peter
Peter

Hi,
It works with w10 via a workaround.
Scroll down to the thread:

Thank you very much for your message Jurgen.
I have had a look at the thread, which at least offers some hope, but I am not sure how the "workaround" is best obtained or effected.
I will try to study the matter further.

Peter

Install windows xp while running VM ware (from within VM ware)

Thanks again Jurgen.
I have found a possible alternative, in the form of a friend's old laptop that it still functional and runs on Windows XP. The Pronto Edit opens normally on this PC, but when I try to upload from my Pronto remote to Edit, the PC doesn't want to know the remote!
I assume that this may be a driver issue, but I would welcome your further advice on how to approach the problem.
Regards,
Peter

Hi Peter,

Indeed, it could be a driver version story.

I’m on holiday, so I can’t check which version I use.

But do you know if you have the latest software version? It’s on remote central (I hope it still is).
Best regards, Jürgen

Jurgen, I'm very sorry to disturb your holiday! I hope the weather is better than it has been in New Zealand lately.
I'm not sure what software I would have for the remote, but we have owned it for over 10 years and as far as I am aware, it would not have been updated since then.
I'll see what I can find out. Meanwhile, I am still pursuing your idea of running XP on the other laptop using VMWare.
Peter
