I have a very complex home entertainment unit and have programmed a very complicated PCF for my TSU7500 using ProntoProEdit NG. I recently upgraded my two PCs to Windows 7 and 8. ProntoProEdit can still program on the Windows 7 PC, but neither new PC will download a revised PCF onto my TSU7500.

What is the simplest, fastest way to adapt my remote control to Windows 8? Programming a completely new remote from scratch would be an impossible nightmare.

I am also interested how to run ProntoEdit NG on Windows 8. The link you provided is for Windows 7.
I understood from other information that Windows 8 and ProntoEdit NG don't like each other.
But isn't there some way around?
I even thought about installing another Window on my W8 pc, but read that for a dual boot system first another Windowversion should be installed and then W8.
Best regards, Jürgen

I am running Windows 8 Pro 64 Bit version and this is how I did a work around. I have no idea whether or not this works on any other version of Win 8 or if it works on the 32 bit version. First I downloaded a free application called Classic Shell

Here is the link: [Link: sourceforge.net]

This application allowed me to get my "Start Button" back the one Win 8 so rudely removed and allowed me to quickly bounce back and forth between Win 8 tiles and the classic desktop I'm comfortable with. I chose to use the win 7 desktop but there are other choices if you prefer. I doubt it matters because Its still win 8 with a shell over it. I just downloaded and installed my ProeditNg software from my new Win 7 desktop and it installed seamlessly drivers and all. As long as I switch to my Win 7 shell from the default win 8 tiles before I plug my TSU7500 in through the USB it has worked perfectly "Knock on wood"

It didn't work.
What did I do?
I installed Classicshell.
I installed ProntoProEdit NG (latest version).
I tried to run the Pronto program (without an Pronto Remote Control - via USB - installed).
The start screen opens then the program stops (without showing anything).
I'll tried several times to run the Pronto program in a compatibility mode (Windows XP (Service Pack 3); it didn't run.
I'll get the message: The file seems corrupt or damaged and ProntoProEdit NG cannot open it.

So I wonder what you did/do different.

It would be nice if you could write it a bit more extensive.

e.g. I can't switch easily between the W8 and the W7-classics shell screen, but got the impression you can; you even wrote that there are others options as well; I can't see them, either.

I have Windows 8 Pro OS. I installed classic shell when it came out. Downloaded the latest ProntoProEdit NG 2.1.8.0. I can't install it using compatibility as Windows 7, Program starts to install and tells me can't install on this OS. It will install as compatibility XP, but then the drivers do not install. So I can't upload or download using the USB. Can do everything in the program except upload and download. So my question is which compatibility OS did you install?

Send LowPro a PM and see if he installed on Win8.

Personally, I will likely buy a Mac before I install Win8.

Yes, I'm still running XPSP3 in 32 bit mode as I hated Vista and never made the jump to 64 bit due to many different driver issues I would have.

I have a iMac, too, but there is no Pronto NG-software for the Apples.

Hello Jürgen
it will not work on any 64bit OS anyway - there are no USB Drivers available.
On Win7-64 you can use "Windows XP-Mode", that will work perfect.
Or use VMPlayer or VirtualBox to install an 32bit OS (XP or Win7)

Regards
Daniel

Thanks.
Perhaps it's the easiest (and best) way to try to get a second hand notebook with XP or Win 7.

I got Windows 8 Pro 64 bit to work. I used the program WMWARE and you must have a licensed XP copy to load. With a licensed XP copy you can get it to work with any OS after XP, 32 or 64 bit.

Thanks,

Just to be sure I understand you right.

You had first W8 on the pc and then you installed WMWARE and from within that program you loaded XP ...?

That is correct. Windows 8 was first, then VMWARE which has you install an XP operating system. If you need more help, google "VMWARE player windows XP". You will see step by step instructions in some of the posts.
