Hi all,

I have an exotic problem with my "new" Pronto (SBC-RU990), hoping one can help.

My setup:
Harman Kardon HT Bluray system (BDS-270) in a cabinet.
Generic IR repeater (no brand) to lead the IR codes in the cabinet.

Until now, everything worked perfectly: I used a good old B&W Pronto (yes, the first model), and the HK Receiver was controlled without problem.
Here is for example the learned code to switch to HDMI1 (couldn't found any discrete code to work):

0000 006C 0026 0000 0159 00AE 0016 0016 0016 0041 0016 0041 0016 0016 0016 0016 0016 0016 0016 0016 0016 0041 0016 0016 0016 0041 0016 0041 0016 0016 0016 0041 0016 0041 0016 0041 0016 0016 0016 0041 0016 0041 0016 0016 0016 0041 0016 0016 0016 0041 0016 0016 0016 0041 0016 0016 0016 0016 0016 0041 0016 0016 0016 0041 0016 0016 0016 0041 0016 0016 0016 05FB 0159 0057 0016 0E7C 0159 0057 0016 00AE

Now, I have simply imported my CCF into my brand new color Pronto (RU990), so the IR code is exactly the same....and now my IR codes only work like 1 time out of 10 through the IR repeater.
What's weird: they do work when I point the RU990 to the receiver directly.

I'm not an expert, but not a newbie either. I have "played" with my Pronto for years. Obviously, the IR repeater is a problem here.
But it makes absolutely no sense to me: why was the IR repeater working flawlessly when I was using an old B&W pronto; and why does it cause issues now with a color pronto, with the exact same pronto hex IR codes for the exact same receiver, that hasn't moved by a mm in the cabinet?

If anyone could shed a light here, it would be greatly appreciated. More precisely:
- Why does the new Pronto 990 seem to treat the same Pronto HEX IRs differently from my old Pronto? Is that a referenced behaviour, and could I tweak the hex codes to behave exactly as on the old pronto?
- If anyone had "clean" IR codes (discrete codes) for the new range of HK home theater systems, it would be very welcome. I couldn't find them here, and of course, I canno't be 100% sure that my learned codes are totally clean.

BTW, I have tried the following:
- Relearn the IR codes in the RU990 by learning from both the original HK remote AND the old B&W Pronto: the resulting IR codes are the same.
- Relearn the IR codes in the RU990, with the RU990 in the cabinet (next to the IR emitters of the repeater), and pointing the original HK remote to the repeater sensor...the RU990 refuses to learn anything
- Tested most discrete HK codes here on the website, unfortunately these seems to be only for (rather old) AV Receivers, and not for the range of integrated HT systems.

Thanks!
Pierre

Make sure you have the latest firmware and the latest PPENG software. If you do, then look at the IR code data and adjust the 'Duration' setting to something other than 'Default' to see if you can get the code to work.

Hi Lyndel,

Thank you for your feedback! I just found a solution yesterday and didn't have time to mark m problem as resolved.

I think I have done something similar to what you have proposed. I have taken one code that did work on both the B&W & the color Pronto, either directly to the receiver or through the IR repeater.

Thanks to the excellent guide at [Link: remotecentral.com] , that already helped me decode the Apple Remote IRs, I understood that the header (and the IR code frequency) might be the problem here. I didn't want to have to decode the binary "burst pairs" and the Harman Kardon IR coding, but I gave a try to change the preample (frequency) and the matching lead out on my IR codes, leaving the actual IR message (the bust pair) unchanged.
I achieved sucess rate of more than 50%.
Now I tried several IR length for the burst pairs themselves, and realized I could obtain a 99% success rate by changing "0014" & "0015" to "0016"; and "0041" to "0040".

So my initial code, working only on the Pronto B&W (HDMI 2for example) was:

0000 006d 0026 0000 0156 00ab 0016 0014 0016 0040 0016 0040 0016 0014 0016 0014 0016 0014 0016 0015 0016 0040 0016 0014 0016 0040 0016 0040 0016 0014 0016 0040 0016 0040 0016 0040 0016 0014 0016 0015 0016 0014 0016 0040 0016 0040 0016 0014 0016 0040 0016 0014 0016 0040 0016 0040 0016 0040 0016 0015 0016 0014 0016 0040 0016 0014 0016 0040 0016 0014 0016 05ec 0156 0055 0016 0e3b 0156 0055 0016 00ab

It became, with new preamble, lead out, and updated burst pairs length:

0000 006C 0024 0000 0159 00AE 0016 0016 0016 0040 0016 0040 0016 0016 0016 0016 0016 0016 0016 0016 0016 0040 0016 0016 0016 0040 0016 0040 0016 0016 0016 0040 0016 0040 0016 0040 0016 0016 0016 0016 0016 0016 0016 0040 0016 0040 0016 0016 0016 0040 0016 0016 0016 0040 0016 0040 0016 0040 0016 0016 0016 0016 0016 0040 0016 0016 0016 0040 0016 0016 0016 05FB 0159 0057 0016 00AE

And it works! It was tedious to update all codes, but all is good now. I am posting this just in case; this is trial and error and I don't pretend to fully understand what I did ;-)
