PROBLEM: After running the wonderful CCleaner utility to clean out my registry, ProntoProEdit NG would no longer launch or work in Windows 7 64 Bit Ultimate on my Laptop. (Next time I'll custom select the Registry entries I do & don't want CCleaner to tamper with!) But the following worked to fix the problem.
OBJECTIVE: What I needed to do was to “re’Register’” these 2 files:
• C:\Windows\SysWOW64>msxml4.dll &
• C:\Windows\SysWOW64>msxml6.dll
PROCESS: I used Windows 7’s regsvr32 (Microsoft Register Server) command/function.
“regsvr32 is a command-line utility in Microsoft Windows operating systems for registering and unregistering DLLs and ActiveX controls in the Windows Registry.”
SOLUTION--HERE’S EXACTLY WHAT I DID THAT WORKED:
I first uninstalled ProntoProEdit NG & then re-installed it using the install CD. But it still wouldn't launch. Then I did the following, which worked. I don't think I really needed to do the uninstall/re-install. Next time, I'll just try re-registering its DLL files as follows:
1) In Win7's Start menu type: cmd ***but do not hit the ENTER key!***
2) Rt√cmd.exe that appears on the list above > √Run as administrator > √Yes to continue
3) After the ">" Command Prompt type: cd \windows\syswow64[press the ENTER key]
4) Next, after each command prompt as follows, type the regsvr32 command and one of the two ProntoProEdit NG drivers you need to re-"register":
- C:\Windows\SysWOW64>regsvr32 msxml4.dll{ENTER}
[it will give you a message that the DLL file was registered successfully]
- C:\Windows\SysWOW64>regsvr32 msxml6.dll{ENTER}
[it will give you a message that the DLL file was registered successfully]
5) Hopefully you, too, will then be able to re-launch ProntoProEdit NG!
If it works, you'll be able to edit your TSU7500 & 3000 configuration files in Windows 7 a whole lot faster than in Windows XP.
Downloading configuration files to the Prontos:
I must still download the configuration files to the Prontos using ProntoProEdit NG from Windows XP. I do that by running Virtual Windows & Windows XP mode from inside Windows 7 and it works beautifully. (You need to install ProntoProEdit NG from inside Windows XP Mode. And after connecting the Pronto via USB cable to your PC you must select to "attach" the newly found "unidentified USB device" at the very top of the virtual Windows XP screen so that Windows XP Mode will detect that you have a Pronto connected via USB. The two Virtual XP downloads you'll need for that are probably still available free on Microsoft's website.)

For my money, the Prontos are still the best remotes by far. Am waiting for Android tablets that can operate like customizable learning remotes exactly like my good old Prontos still do. Whoever comes across those devices & apps first, please post them!

P.S. I hope I'm posting this in the correct place. That's one thing I've never quite been able to figure out how to do properly on this website, despite reading the directions.
