As a long-time user of an RU940, I've just purchased a colour NG device on eBay. I'm somewhat concerned that it might not be what it claims to be.
- the advert stated it was an RU990 - the Philips box and manual that came with it is for an RU990 - the label on the back face, ie the lid of the battery compartment, says RU990 - the serial number label inside the battery compartment states RU980, with a 2 added in ball point ben. The serial number does not match the one on the box. - Page 4 of Settings reports it to be RU980 v2.0, with App Version 3.4.16 and Boot Loader 4.21
Is all this as it should be, or have I been sold a hybrid? I'd be grateful if another RU990 owner could help me confirm.
Thanks

RU990 has 48mb versus 32mb on the RU980. RU990 has brighter hard button backlighting and slightly different button symbols, particularly for CH/VOL and the soft buttons below the screen. Use this picture for a reference of how a RU980/TSU7000 would look: [Link: remotecentral.com]Otherwise, there are no other differences.

Thanks for that. Certainly, the CH/VOL buttons look like the ones in your picture, rather than the simple +/- signs shown in the manual and the picture on the box. So, I guess this is a RU980.
How can I get it to report on memory size? All I seem to be able to find is a figure for % memory free.

Hi Gary, Did you just pay £174 for that? One of the most obvious differences between the two is the 'OK' button, On the Earlier RU950/980 (TSU3000/7000) the 'OK' button was a 'tick' symbol, on the later RU960/990 (TSU3500/7500) the 'OK' button was an 'OK symbol'. regards Mark

I don't believe there is a way to show an actual amount of memory - and you can't calculate it yourself based on the size of a PCF file. So you kind of have to go by physical characteristics.

Thanks for your help. I've concluded that this is definitely a 980 not a 990. Yes indeed, I did pay £174. The photos in the ad were pretty dark, so it is not easy to make out the button logos.
I also had some issues with the physical condition of the device. So, the seller has agreed to a return/refund.

I was watching that Remote in 'my eBay', I've picked up a few Brand New Prontos that way. There was an eBay seller some time ago based in the Far East selling 960's and 990's at reasonable money, brand new obviously, then they just disappeared. Shame, as I reckon the NG range were excellent Remotes.
