Just in case anyone missed the posts in the Vista thread, ProntoProEditNG works just fine with 64-bit Windows 7 with some simple steps.

1. Go to [Link: microsoft.com] and follow the instructions to download and install the three pieces in the order indicated in the instructions (the third piece makes it work on CPUs without virtualization capabilities).

2. Run an XP Mode virtual machine, and install ProntoProEdit on it.

3. When you attach the remote, Windows 7 won't know what to do. In the XP Mode virtual machine, use the USB menu to attach "Unknown Device"

4. You'll be prompted to install the driver. Click OK and you may get a message looking for PRONTO2G.sys. Browse and point it at Program Files/Philips/Drivers/Win2KXPME.

5. Upload and download to the remote. Yay!

I just finally updated my 7500 for the first time since my last 32-bit Vista computer died a few months ago. So nice to be able to change things again!

Wow thanks alot!!!!!! Finally I can use my new laptop to program my 7500!!!! I have been stuck using a 6 year old xp laptop that was slow as molasses.

If you try this be sure to use the USB tab at the top of the screen. I did not see it the first time I tried it and was unsucessful. I made the mistake of going directly through device manager and doing the same basic steps mentioned above but Pronto NG did not recognise the device. Once I noticed the USB tab at the top of the XP window, I uninstalled the service from device manager unpluged the device and repluged back it in. This time I pressed the USB tab at the top of the page and after following the steps listed above it worked like a charm.

Thanks again!!!

Unfortunatley it won't work with Home Premium.

Yeah, for the virtual XP mode you need Professional or higher.

But with "anytime upgrade", you can turn your Home Premium into Professional for $90.

Do we know if this is the recommended solution as well for a Marantz RC9500? I have 7 Ultimate and did get Wizz-It 9 installed but the USB driver for the remote will not install.

Damn, this won't do me any good. My CPU does not have Virtualization capability. It's an E8400.

Microsoft has added a third download at the link in the first post which allows XP Mode to work on CPUs without Virtualization technology.

I'm currently using Windows 7 Pro (x64) and Pronto Edit v3.1.3.0 without the need for the XP virtualization software. I just used compatibility mode set for XP sp2 when I did the install.

PENG works - but you will not be able to upload/download to/from Pronto. Because there is no working USB driver.

Details, please. I don't see this 'third download' you speak of. I have the same problem others do - Win7 Home Premium 64. The response from the site is 'you are not eligible to download...' Please advise.

I believe you need Windows 7 Professional to access this feature.
I consider this a double screwing...one from Philips (no 64 bit driver) and one from MS (feature not available with Win 7 Home Premium).

That was my understanding of it also, but the post in question seemed to imply there was a download for those of us who only had Home Premium.

I happen to disagree with you about both Philips and MS. I can't blame them for not wanting to invest their time to write, test, distribute and maintain a driver for an operating system that is retired and no longer supported by the manufacturer.

As to Microsoft, we all had the option to buy the next level of OS, but chose to save the money instead. As was pointed out, you can always upgrade your version of Windows to the next higher level for $90 and then download the virtual machine.

My solution will be to partition my drive and install a boot manager to dual-boot Win7 and XP. Simple enough and solves a lot of problems for other programs like some games, too!

I personally for some reason could not get PENG (for a Philips RU950.TSU3000) working on Win7 x32. Didn't want to upgrade to Pro or ultimate just for my remote, i'd rather have dual booted TBH. There should in theory be better support for old apps in W7 than Vista yet Vista worked perfectly after setting compatibility mode to XP on the installer and W7 PENG just froze after starting the app.

My solution to this problem was to use VMWare Player, its free but you do need a copy of XP and a valid key. I just find its a lot easier than rebooting, plus Unity mode in VMWare allows Pronto Edit to act as a native app.

I could not get VMWare's device manager to recognize my RC9500 over the USB port, even with the RC9500 installed within VMWare.
