I leave my DVRs "on" all the time also. There's very little reason for turning them "off". And it means you don't have to worry about the lack of a discrete power on/off in an activity-based PCF like mine.
I have an HR20-100, an HR20-700 and an HR21-100. All driven by an RF repeater. My delay between numbers in a macro is 0.2 seconds and I have never had a problem with the macros, in three years with a TSU7000.

I turn both of my HR2X with discrete on/off with no problems, agree not much value but trying to be a "green" as possible.

I think there is zero "green" value to turning off these receivers. Do the hard drives of the DVRs even spin down and stop? The classic non-green and very silly "turn-off" was with the RCA DTC-100, where the video output went from satellite stations to black. That is, it continued to output video, but it output a black screen. That's not off.
I have ACTUALLY said this a thousand times: We can't help you much without the make and model of everything involved in the problem! Unless you want a vague answer. Or none. Your move.

The difference in power consumption between "on" and "off" is very small. As you say, the disk drives continue to spin because the DVR is maintaining the 90 minute "live" buffer. The rest of the DVR continues to operate so it can start scheduled recordings, take downloads of movies from DirecTV into the "DirecTV Cinema" part of the drive, and accept new software downloads from DirecTV. The only things that go "off" are lights and the video output. But the video does actually go off, unlike the DTC-100!

This was on dbstalk.com and it works. It seems that the entering of the channel numbers and the banner don't like the timing. Hope they can fix this, it's been like this for almost a year.

Thanks Bob H.
