I remember trying to get that backlight to work with every button pressed,Yes you can reassign any hard button for the backlight after addressing it the special action, and you can create a new button and make it come on by that newly created soft button, and then link every button to that newly created soft button, but even after linking all buttons to that soft key, no backlamp ! Like all stated here, no way around this,I guess they (Philipps) almost thought of everything ! :)

I have successfully modified the TSU7000 to have the hard button lights come on automatically-
It works but sometimes there is a slight lockup but goes away by itself after a short time--it could be because I have the beep turned on the hard button for lighting the hard buttons--below is what I done.
the top left hand side hard button for turning manually on the lighting is where the mod is done.
1: pull apart the remote casing after removing the 4 screws --these screws are allen head and very fine--I had one that stripped so I drilled off the head with a drill bit slightly larger then the screw shaft--they are fairly soft metal. The case snaps together so start slowly with a fine flat screw driver starting at the rear prizing apart.Once apart see where the top left hand switch to turn on the hard button lighting is--It is a double pole double throw momentary switch.
2: I used a mercury tilt switch to work in conjunction with the built in one--solder 2 fine wires to pins 1 & 3 --one wire to 1 and the other to 3 --you will need a small soldering iron--then I put a glob of silicon on the nearest large chip to the switch--then push the tilt switch into the silicon making sure 1 that the switch contacts are horizontal to the face -- make sure you leave 4mm or so of the hard wires of the tilt switch hanging fee so the bulb is free in the air--this is so the bulb can be adjusted for more or less sensitivity--I bent it down slightly so when the remote is laying down it wont activate easily--then I soldered the 2 wires from the switch to tilt bulb. After trying it out and adjusting the momentary switch to your liking just put back together--I didnt put the screws back in because when snapped back together was fine for me--if you put normal phillips head screws back in instead of the original one would be a better option---so now when I tilt the remote both the lcd screen and the hard buttons lights come on--the hard buttons have a fixed time they are on--you also get double beeps at times--I dont know yet whether I can turn off that hard button beep but will look at that later in the manual--works great--I hated not being able to see the hard buttons in the dark but now great--silly phillips didnt do this but happy now
