I have just acquired a refurbished Pronto 7500/17. I was able to succesfully program and make it learn several devices. I had problems, however, when I later tried to edit configurations from ProntoProEdit NG v2.1.4.0, installed on my notebook running on Windows XP. I got the following (not very helpful) error message on the notebook: "An error occurred while downloading the configuration to the device.". The Pronto flashed "Incorrect version of CP file or corrupt memory" and froze. I tried resetting by pressing the reset button in the batttery compartment, to no avail: when Pronto rebooted, it still showed the same message and was unresponsive to any commands. I rebooted my notebook, reinstalled ProntoProEdit but still nothing. I did the recommended updates to firmware (downloaded v. 3.8.11) and updated ProntoProEdit to version 2.1.8.0-- still same error message and frozen screen. Contacted Philips Pronto team but, as of yet, no reply. Any help will be much appreciated.

Now you've updated firmware and editer have you tried creating a new simple config (or use the sample file in the editer) and download that to the device.

I'd say it sounds like the config file might have been created for the wrong device, in the editer for my RU950 you can choose either TSU3000, TSU3500, RU950 or RU960 when you create the file

I would imagine yours would be the same (TSU7000, TSU7500, RU980, RU990) you need to make sure you pick the correct model. RU's are european models and TSU the USA.

Thanks reply, Jim. Yes, I did choose TSU 7500 when loading the editor and I did try downloading the default config over my modified config, but it didn't work-- same old "error downloading" message at the end. Yes, it does look as if my editor is set for the wrong model but, in that case, I don't know where I went wrong or what I should have done to set it to the right model. What frustrates me most is that Philips seems not to have included a way to reboot the thing. The "reset" button on the back is useless. The Pronto screen is frozen with the message "incorrect version of CF file or corrupt memory" and, for the life of me, I can't unfreeze it...

Re-installed updated firmware from CD, this time selecting to overwrite corrupted config file on the Pronto with default config file from the CD. Presto!--this finally unblocked the remote and I am now back to square one: functioning Pronto, no devices. Before making new attempt at download, wondering what I should do to avoid repeat of the problem. "TSU 7500" has definitely been selected in PENG, so don't see how there could be incompatibility issues. Any suggestions, more than welcome.

It may be due to using an old version of ProntoEdit or Firmware with a newer version of the other one.

For example latest FW version v3.8.17 requires PPENG 2.1.1 at minimum and latest PPENG v2.1.8 requires FW version v3.8.16 at a minimum so updating one but not the other can cause problems.

My previous post was a guess and not a definite but glad it works now.

Make sure you've upgraded to newest versions of FW and Editor it shouldn't happen again (if thats what it was)

The first thing I did with my 3000 was make sure I had newest versions of both FW and software. You can get both from the files section up there ^^^

Thanks for tips, JimBob. One more question: will CF files developed for 3000 and/or 7000 work on 7500?

yes they will, but 3000/3500 files won't use the full georgeous colour capabilities obviously. the 7000 was essentially the same hardware as your 7500 (with a bit less memory I think)

Bummer--

Installed the latest FW update (v3.8.17) and latest editor version (v.2.1.8), first from CD, then from RC site to eliminate possibility of corrupted files. Installed everything on notebook, then on desktop, to make sure it wasn't a system problem. But no matter what I tried, got "error downloading configuration to the device" and "The CF version is not correct or the memory is corrupt", upon which Pronto would promptly crash and I would need to reinstall default configuration from the firmware update.

Could this be a hardware problem (corrupt memory?)? If so, why am able to download the default config file from the firmware update?

Man-- had I known Pronto was so buggy and time consuming to program, would have gone for the far cheaper Logitech...

Just wondering if you ever resolved this problem? I have a TSU7500 which is acting in the same manner. Thank you

I found the most reliable way to use the Pronto and the Editor on an XP machine was to install the software as "administrator" and always run it as "administrator" - that used to seem to run smoother than before I did it that way. I did that fairly early on after having all sorts of connection problems so cannot be definite it was that that remedied it, but it seemed to.

Also I found that it was best to do any uploading/downloading with the remote on the dock and actually charging.

And finally, I found using a USB port on the PC/laptop as opposed to on a hub, more reliable!

Hope some of that helps!

Stoobie,

Thanks for the information. I eradicated the set-up from my computer and re-installed it under the administrator profile. I plugged into the computer USB directly with the same results. The 7500 is in the docking station. The unit locks up with the corrupt configuration. The only way to unlock it is to reload the firmware and configuration. I'll try reviving a 98 computer and try running it from there. Any idea if having both prontoedit and prontoproedit on the same machine would create an issue? I'm grasping at straws

Do not connect via the docking station. Always connect your Pronto directly to your PC. Avoid using a USB port that is in a hub. Use a direct USB port.

Peter et al:

OK, I'm stumped. I have connected my 7500 via the cradle and directly, I have run it directly from the PC rather than via a hub, I have installed the PPE software as an administrator and have even gone to the extent of purchasing a Win 98 laptop and attempted to modify a PCF file and uploading it pack to the 7500. All to no avail. Every attempt results in the PC reading that there has been an error and the 7500 indicating that there was and incorrect cf version or corrupt memory. The unit retains the message whether I reset, pull the battery or pray. The only way I can bring it back to functionality is to reload the latest firmware with the base config. I am running the most recent firmware and PPE. Any attempt to modify the newly loaded config via PPE results in the same error.

So there is something wrong with the PCF file. There is one of the PCF files in the files section of this site that always gives me the same problem you are describing (it runs OK in the simulator). (I have mailed the author to tell him). I have never had the problem with any other PCF file.

I am having this issue with the base PCF installed on the unit. I have downloaded the PCF to PPE, saved it and attempted to upload it back with the same result. I have loaded the PCF from the firmware update, downloaded and saved, and when attempting to upload, the 7500 crashes with the same message. I have also tried loading a converted 3000 CCF/PCF with the same result.
