I've never had a Pronto and wouldn't want to.

John, would you be willing to share with us why you wouldn't?

I don't want one, either, even though I carry a TS1000 with me. I've programmed quite a few Prontos and Marantzes, and decided I didn't want one after programming a Marantz RC5200 for myself and finding that I would rather learn the positions of thirty buttons than have to use two hands and look at the screen every time I used the remote. I still have that RC5200 -- it's a great loaner -- but I bought an RTI T2+ for myself, and I love it. Buttons that you can learn by feel makes it for me.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

That's it exactly.

JP1 remotes are low cost and more flexibly programmable than Pronto's or other higher cost universal remotes. The major disadvantage of a JP1 remote compared to those others is the button labels are pre printed and won't match the functions you program on those buttons.

But I don't want to look at the remote anyway while using it. If I don't look, I need to know button function by position, not label. So those wrong labels don't matter.

You might find this funny (or strange), but before I purchased the TSU3500 last week, I already had a touch screen remote. Funny thing is that even with the touchscreen sI never have to look down at it. I guess over time you tend to hold it the same and your fingers just know where to go.

RTI remotes, like crestron are for custom installers only, I think people that came to RC are the ones that want to program for themself.

Like me I think a lot of guys just don't want to call (and pay) your dealer everytime you want to change something in our systems.
