Hi Long term browser, first time poster :-)

I have had the RU990 and LI900 RF extender, for about a year and a half now. Intermittently my remote appears to not send a signal to the RF extender. All my equipment is in a cupboard except for the plasma, which I use IR for. I tried all the usual resets etc which didn't seem to fix. I discovered it would "fix" itself just being left alone for awhile. Also installed the latest firmware (3.8.17)

Recently I also found that if I put the remote right next to the RF extender it would receive the signal ie extender would flash. During these times, the battery was at least 50% charged (according to the icon). However, given this I would then fully charge the battery and it would work again, but don't know if this is the battery or because I "left it alone";-)

Also note the IR signals to the plasma were fine.

This problem is becoming more frequent (also since adding foxtel iq codes last week).

I was wondering if I had a problem with the remote or the RF extender or battery or ?????

I have searched the threads and also logged a call with Phillips, but that did not help. I am hoping someone might be able to give me a clue !

If it is the battery, then after some time of rest it should work, but only for a few minutes. You should be able to push buttons several times and get the battery to go low enough to cause a problem again.

When it appears not to send a signal, does the LED flash in the RF receiver? It could be picking up interference.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Hi Ernie, Yes, when I put the remote next to the extender, the extender does flash. I have not tried it from a distance. Will do that next time it falters.

In the past it has seemed fine, after being left alone and would work for a substantial amount of time ie days.

Looks like you are having some kind of RF interference in your home. If you could get a spare remote for some days with your dealer, you clould figure out what is hapening.

I have tried all four channels on the remote and still having the intermittent problem. Although, today my wife told me it was quite specific ie couldn't watch/rewind some recorded TV.

How would I use the other remote to test for the interference?

Tonight it really played up. Not working from a distance, even though the light on the extender would flash. When I held the remote next to the extender, it would work most of the time, but not every time.

Gotten to the stage where I've switched the RF off and opened the cupboard doors!!!

Wondering if the extender is faulty.

Thanks

Don't forget the possibility that your IR emitters are not properly aligned. There are many stories about alignment on this forum. Often times they need to be purposely "mis-aligned" to work well. Especially on cable and Sat boxes. Try everything on IR first, with the emitters removed from the components. If they work on IR, then it is likely a problem with the emitter alignment.

Thanks Dave, I'll give that a try. I have been running it on IR for the previous two days, but I did not remove the IR emitters from the components. I've been running it back on RF for the last 24 hrs and so far so good.

Also, your pronto guide was fantastic. I bought it right when I got my pronto last year and it made the whole learning to program piece easy :-)

Just as an fyi, I borrowed another pronto from the dealer and have been using it successfully for almost a week - no RF problems at all.

So it appears to be an intermittent problem with my remote itself.

Can the remote be serviced or repaired?
