Maybe someone can help. I have a Denon DCM-560 cd player. I programmed my 3000 by learning codes from the 560's remote. Some of the codes work okay, but most do not. I have tried it several times in different room environments, but only the play and pause and a couple other codes work. I have a Denon AVR-3801 that I used the remote to learn the 560 codes, and all of them worked. And the orinal remote works fine. This is the only piece of equipment that I own that has had a problem with the 3000.

Can anybody give a few suggestions?
Thanks for viewing and hopefully responding.

Post some Pronto Hex samples from the DCM-560 signals you learned. From the good ones, I can probably identify the code set and tell you how to make a full set of clean codes. From the bad ones, I can probably tell you what went wrong while learning.

There are many threads in this forum that discuss IR learning problems and how to avoid them. A couple generic suggestions before seeing any details are:

1) Try new batteries in the Denon remote. Batteries can be good enough for a remote to control the original device, but not good enough to teach the signal to a learning remote.

2) If you were learning with the 3000 connected to the PC, learn with it disconnected.

I don't think your Denon has IR signals that are inherently hard to learn. I think they are ordinary easy to learn signals and one of the above two issues or some other common flaw in learning technique has caused your problems.

Try relearning the codes which won't work. The software might captured a bad/incorrect IR signal from the Original Remote.

Also, avoid fluorescent lights while learning. I also close the blinds to avoid as much extraneous light as possible. So far, I've never had a problem learning codes.

After reading through the original Posting, I wonder why he learned the cd player codes with his Denon A/V universal remote!?
Denons' A/V Receiver universal remotes have set Denon devices as preset for all devices that can be controlled with it. So there should have been no need to learn the signals from the CD Player remote...

I wondered about this for a moment, then put it down to perhaps inexact writing -- maybe he meant learned the codes FROM the Denon universal remote. I will say that whatever he meant, it sure isn't clear. An explanation of what was meant could help, but John has the solution!
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Thank you for viewing and responding. My post made sense to me,of course, but reviewing it makes me realize I didn't really explain every step I did.

I programmed the 3000 with the original 560 remote (which was properly explained). When that did not work with all of the buttons, I also tried programming the 3000 with 3801's universal remote, which I had programmed using the learn function from the 560 original remote. So I have tried to program the 3000 with two remotes that work(which was not made clear in my post). This is the only component that I have had a problem with when programming the 3000.

I don't think it is the light(s) because at the same time of the mis-learned codes, other ones were working fine.

I didn't have time to copy the hex codes or try learning without the PC. I will do these tonight and post my findings.

Again, I thank you for your help.

Well, I'd just relearn the IR codes. Surely, something went wrong when learning.

Be sure to press the Buttons on the Original Remote once and hard! Do not hold these buttons down. This has helped me with some codes that I learned and which did not do, what they were intended to do (E.g. on my TV, jump 2 channels instead of 1)

You could also try to find a ready-to-use preset of codes somewhere on the internet. (Preferrably in the filebase here on this site ;) )

Okay, here is a PLAY code that worked.

I tried learning directly to the 3000 w/o the PC interface. PLAY wouldn't even work with that method.
Any help sure is appreciated.

I just sent you an email (assuming the email address in your profile is correct and accepts attachments). I attached a CCF file with clean copies of all 256 possible commands of Denon protocol, device 8.

The three Pronto Hex strings you just posted are functions 92, 94 and 90 (so you'll find clean generated pronto hex for those in that ccf under those numbers). I hope you have a decent way to import or merge from a ccf into your Pronto NG configuration.

To find the function numbers from other pronto hex strings you need this version of IrTool
[Link: remotecentral.com]
plus DecodewIR.dll
[Link: john.fine.home.comcast.net]

With DecodeIR.dll in the same directory, run IrTool and paste in each Pronto Hex sample and press decode. A pop up dialog will show you what the signal is. The function number is labeled "OBC". Ignore the "EFC" number.

If you have more signals that don't work well but are good enough to decode (as those three were) you can use the decode info to select the clean signal from the file I sent. I think those clean signals should work well, but I don't see anything wrong with the Fast Forward signal you posted and not enough wrong with the Stop signal to understand why it doesn't work.

Hopefully these clean signals will work well. If not, the problem might be something about the way your 3000 is sending the signals rather than a learning problem.

John,
Thank you so much for the help. I got it about 90% completed. There are still a couple of buttons that do not come up in the decoder. So tomorrow, I will just have to do some trial and error.
I wish I could buy you a beer or something. Your help was deeply appreciated.
