Can't Reliably Control Windows Media Center over RF -- Any Fix for This??

I can't reliably control Windows Media Center with my Pronto over RF. Guests can't figure out how to use it because it sometimes does and sometimes does not respond to button presses. This problem has been bugging me for a long time and I've tried everything to fix it without success.

Here's my setup:
*Pronto TSU-7500
*Pronto RFX-6000 RF extender (yeah, the old one)
*Windows Media Center 2005 with Microsoft IR receiver
*Codes from Philips Database, codes from other PCF files on Remote Central

What Goes Wrong:
If I use the Microsoft IR remote, it works great. If I use the Pronto in IR mode, it works great. If I use the Pronto in RF mode - it takes several button presses (or actually pressing and holding the button) for Media Center to recognize a command.

What I've tried:
*Different codes from different PCF files. No effect - all basically seem to be have the same codes.

*Using TweakMCE to enable "Universal Remote Control" within Windows Media Center. No effect.

*Changing the Code Duration: I tried multiple durations. A 0.4-to-0.6 second duration seemed to be correct, but they would cause a double button press about half the time. So it's either too short to register at all, or long enough to register but occasionally cause a double-button press. I kept changing the duration so it would be give only a single press, but never found a setting that consistently worked as a single press every day. Plus, a 0.6 second duration makes everything happen very slowly.

I don't understand why RF control works perfectly for all devices except Windows Media Center. And I don't understand why IR control works for Media Center, but stops working when I switch it to RF. It doesn't seem like an upgrade to an RFX-6500 would help, since all other components work fine over the 6000.. If anyone has a solution that works, please let me know. Thanks!

You do realise that delays and duration are completely different. Duration is more likely to produce results.

Sorry, I originally used the word "delay" a couple of times above but what I actually meant was "duration." I updated the post.

As much as I'd like to blame Windows, this is definitely a Pronto issue. I don't know why it won't pass the correct codes via RF when everything works fine in IR mode.

I had a similar problem controlling a Zune adapter. I was using the supplied IR blaster with the Pronto RFX 6500. It didn't even work. BUT, if I used the same blaster through a Xantech IR repeater, and the Pronto set for IR, it did! Go figure. What cured the problem was to use a Xantech 282 IR blaster. DON"T ask me why!! It works great now, at long distances of 75ft, through two floors! I'm not sure a RFX6000 will work quite that well, but you never know. I have found the RFX6500 is far more reliable. Also, found the optimal setting for most any IR code through the RFX6500 is .3 duration.
Let us know what you find.

I'm glad to say that I found the problem. I replaced the RFX6000 with an RFX6500 and the problem disappeared. Windows Media Center worked perfectly. Also, every single component, there is much less of a delay between pushing the button and the command being accepted by the A/V system.

I knew the RFX6000 was less-reliable as far as interference, but I didn't know that some codes won't pass correctly at all and I didn't know how much slower it was. I was going to use the RFX6000 in a second room, but now I'm thinking of using it as a target for a hammer. At least Philips did redeem themselves and release an improved version, but they need to apologize to everyone who purchased the first version.

Looks like to me you had a range problem. RFX6500 has a better range.
