I've been using my ru940 for many years and love it but it seems that more devices rely on a directional pad to navigate so my trusty ru940 is beginning to annoy me due to the lack of d-pad. i have been looking at second hand Pronto NG TSU3000 on ebay and wondered if i should make the change? over the years i have created some quite complex ccf's and macros for the old 940 and obviously i will want the same (or greater) level of usability, plus i will want to transfer my supernudelist over to the remote. would i be just better off sticking with the ru940?
cheers
Rich

I've never had a 940 (which, I assume, is comparable to the 1000 or 2000 here in the States), but if the "d-pad" is important to you (and I can tell you I make use of it all the time) then go for it. The 3000 also has more hard buttons aside from the "d-pad", and chances are you'll find a use for them. Your existing ccf can be imported directly and converted to a pcf using PENG. There is no native version of SNL for the NG series, but once you get things set up it really isn't too difficult to work with. Be aware, however, that there have been screen issues with the 3000, some of the solutions to which involve opening the thing up, poking the circuit board with sewing needles, etc, etc. I have a total of 5 3000s, and have only had this happen with one of them (so far)

If you're looking for a second hand 3000 then I assume you're not wanting to spend much money. I've been happy with my 3000 but sometimes the screen leaves a little bit to be desired. See if you can find a second hand 3500 instead. If money's not as big of a concern then go for the color 7000 or 7500.

I am well happy with my 950 (English version of the 3000)
The main differences you will really appreciate over your 940 are the hard buttons including the D pad. I have a sky+ box and most pages I have the hard buttons at the bottom for play, pause and ffwd rew. Although you could use them for different things on each screen if you wish. This way the vast majority of the time the hard buttons do all the basics.
you can also use the whole screen if you so wish to design your own interface. A little ingenuity with page jumps and you can have sliding keypads or drop down menus etc.
While the screen could be better Its perfectly adequate for me.
Given the money I'd love a colour screen but for my £50 on Ebay the 950 is awesome.

So would I but I don't have that kind of disposable cash either. There are other things in my home theater that could stand an upgrade first.

I think you would be happy with the 3000. You can get one pretty cheap on eBay. That's where I got mine.

I use the four buttons just below the screen for the most common tasks for each device. I use the touchscreen only when I have to.

I think I was pretty lucky to get mine for £50. The original winner bid £80 but pulled out because the seller didn't except paypal. I got a 2nd chance offer.
I notice from the link in your signature your 940 CCF has options for lighting. If you are using X10 it might be worth going for the UK 950 rather than the US 3000 as the RF frequency will be compatible with X10 RF whereas the 3000's RF is a different frequency. Plus a cheap Powermid Receiver will work directly with the 950's RF giving a very cheap alternative to the RF extender. (less than a tenner on Ebay for my Powermid receiver)
