Has anyone else had a problem with using a pronto on a directv box. The problem, and i will try to keep it short, is that the IR control is sparadic. I have used a Phillips RF Kit, and a Xantech IR Block. The problem is when i have the emmiter over the IR sensor it doesnt work all the time. If i move the emmiter halfway on and halfway off it works a little better. However this is just a bandaid solution because even with the emmiter shield it likes to come undone and then i have to make a service call to move an IR emmiter. Any help would be appreciated, this happens with most of the recievers whether they are DVR or HD or whatever. Thanks

Ye, almost all of the cable/sat boxes seem to be easily over-saturated with "direct-attached" IR emitters.

Some guys open the case and actually put the emitter inside the box. Solves the problem of them falling off but may cause another problem if the box needs to be swapped out.

I like the connecting blocks which offer high-powered IR outputs. I then use the high-powered blasters and eliminate the entire stick-on mess. Makes installation easier and neater.

These blasters are very strong and will often cover an entire rack with one, possibly two, high-powered blasters. I have had good success with the Niles IRB1 high-powered blasters and their MU250 connecting block. Xantech makes some as well.

Yeah its not so much that they keep falling off its the fact that it seems to be oversaturated. I tried adjusting the dip switches on the new RF block from low to high and even tried a 56k adapter I use to use on Cable boxes it just seems if it is directly on the box it seems to flood it and not work consistantly. I am thinking about trying different codes

You can either use black electrical tape to cover the IR receiver of the sat box with a small pinhole in it. Place the emitter on top of the pin hole and sometimes put an opaque cover over the emitter. Or, place a 680-ohm .5 watt resistor in series with the positive lead of the emitter. This will reduce its output. Or, the third option is some emitters have a strong side and if reversed a weaker output side which can also help. I used the tape version and all my touchpanels and prontos work flawlessly, with the exception of the boxes being to sensitive and sometimes you get 55 if you hit 5, for example. This happens with the factory remotes and no IR receivers, emitters, etc.
