I've just started programming my new 3500 and have the following problem.
My HDD/DVD recorder (Sony RDR HX725) cannot output component and RGB at the same time. I've connected my projector through component but my TV is connected through RGB scart. Everytime I switch from watching TV to using the projector I need to go to the system menu, turn RGB scart off, turn component output on, turn progressive scan on, press OK to confirm progressive output is shown and finally leave the menu again. Normally a macro would do the trick but the problem is that the menu is slow and remembers its last position. So depending on where you were in the menu the last time. you used it shows up on screen. The best thing would be a discreet code for turning component progressive on of course but I don't think that exists (if anyone has it please let me know).
So is there any other way to automate this procedure without having to go through the menu and pressing at least 12 buttons all the time?

No-one?
This really sucks. I buy a $350 remote and still have to go through 12 button presses to switch from watching TV to watching a movie on my projector :(

Sorry. It's not a problem with the remote, it's a problem with the Sony equipment you purchased. If they don't have discrete codes, they don't have discrete codes.

I monitor and for your problem, searched this site and came up empty-handed.

If this is new equipment, then it may show up there shortly. This particular site explains how to use MakeHex from the Classic Pronto Files Forum to generate IR codes for sony equipment.

Thanks Lyndel, nice to get a reply.
I understand that the problem is with the Sony, not the Pronto. I contacted Sony and they told me they could give me codes ONLY if I was going to use them with a Sony remote (wow, how loyal) but the URL you gave could be a source for some info as well. I see that there's a discrete code for Progressive there so that could save me at least a few button presses. Thanks.

This is not a solution but maybe some suggestions to try.

While I accept RGB scart is probably the best quality to feed to your TV (I'm presuming an SD CRT telly) what about using S-VHS to your TV, does this still work when component is on? on an SD TV I actually prefer the S-VHS output from my JVC HD-DVDR over the RGB, might be worth a go.

Does the menu loop round? if not you could send enough lefts or Ups to get to the start of the menu and go from there in your macro's. One of Macros (for something different but on my DVD recorder) does this, the menu remebers its position but enough lefts will get to menu item 1 and then 2 rights will take me to the appropriate menu item. Makes the macro a little longer but I have jumps to a please wait page with a progress bar to remind the user to keep pointing the remote, plus the IR strength is pretty good so even if the remote is moved it tends to still work by bouncing the signal.

I'm presuming you use the CRT TV mainly for watching time shifted and live shows from your DVD recorder and your projecter for Movie's using the DVDR as a source for pre recorded DVD's. How about another DVD player for movie use. Maybe even an upscaler if your projecter is HD ready. My DVDR is OK for DVD playback but I know I could do better purely for playback with a reasonably cheap Panasonic Upscaler, only lack of space in my TV stand stops me doing this for the time being.

Or you could just lie and get the codes from Sony. I take it this means the discreet codes you need do exist. I'd guess that at some point they will be released into general circulation or be included on the link above. At least there is hope :-)

I'd be willing to bet the codes that Sony will provide are simply device numbers for the equipment in a Sony multi-device remote. They will not be the real device number and function numbers as you need for Pronto.

You might want to email the person at hi-fi remote and see if they have any info not yet published.

Thanks for the replies guys.
Since it's only a 20" TV which is used for casual watching I've decided, like jimbobhaslam suggested, to leave component progressive output on all the time and use the standard (scart) video signal for my TV. I can see the difference of course but it's not that bad and it saves me lot of trouble every time I switch from TV to projector. Also, when the DVD recorder is switched off the RGB signal from my decoder gets passed through directly to the TV so when watching live TV I still get an RGB signal.
