I currently am using ProntoProNG version 2.0.12.0. I downloaded 2.1.8. When I went to install it, I received a message indicating that I had to uninstall the previous version before I could install the new. I was afraid that I would lose my configurations if I did that. Is that the case or can I uninstall and then install the new and not lose my configurations. Thank you for the help.

Assuming you saved your configuration in the default location, search C:\Program Files\Philips for *.pcf. Copy them to My Documents. That will take care of your configurations. I believe that the uninstaller will prompt you to save your Gallery.

You won't lose them.

However, you should never store anything in the installation directory for any product.

Philips (and Marantz) do a flaky thing with where they store pcfs and ccfs, that should be taken into account.

I have all of my remote control programming files in a subdirectory called Component Control Programs. Within this, I have the programs, and I also have subdirectories called Component pcfs and Component ccfs. If I ever search for things, I search the entire subdirectory, not just the particular program's subdirectory. Why? Because Philips is not too good at ensuring that if you store a pcf in a particular directory, that it will store there the next time.

With Word, if you store a file in a subdirectory, it will ALWAYS store in that subdirectory until you choose Save As. This is good. With Philips, if you store a file in the \TSU7500 subdirectory, then go to a subdirectory where you have component files, open one and merge it, then save your pcf again, it will be saved this time in that component file subdirectory.

So, before upgrading software, I would look everywhere you might have opened a file while using the program, and be sure you have your pcfs all in one place. And if you are unsure as to whether a program will delete data files, copying them to another directory is always a good idea.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

I agree. I have always stored mine in My Documents\Pronto.
