Hi guys, this is my first post so please dont flame me down!
My projector screen works on IR, I have Pronto Pro 980 and cant find a way to control the screen.
Can anyone help me, I have heard the only way is to build/solder together an RF to IR remote is this correct?

Thanks in advance and well done on a kewl forum!

If your projector screen is IR and you have a 980, there is nothing special you have to do. Just learn the codes!

However, if your screen is actually RF, then you have a problem.

No........see my post here [Link: avforums.com] on how I sorted this very issue for a friend. If you need any further help or you want the remote codes just ask.

Although the solution provided by Kevlar is rather elegant, it maybe overkill.

I see from your profile that you are in the UK. The RU 980 can transmit a 433MHz RF signal ( From memory, I think this is the right frequency - can't seem to find the damn manual to check the specs at the moment!). If your screen operates on this frequency and you can find the remote codes ( try searching the database in the the original pronto and the pronto NG file areas - as a start) you should be able to make an RF device in your PCF that will control it.

There used to be a program called Codegen which could generate the Pronto hex codes for X10 and a couple of other RF formats - perhaps this may be needed to generate the appropriate hexcodes. I believe that this program was withdrawn from general circulation by its author but you may be able find it somewhere on the web.

You've got what many people get when they don't have an experienced installer order the parts: a screen with RF control where the RF part probably cost you a couple hundred dollars, and there is no way the manufacturer will take it back...even though it is wrong for you.

What the manufacturer CAN do, though, is provide you with information as to how to remove that RF controller and replace it with another kind of controller. It could be that a single IR controlled relay (Xantech CC12) could replace the RF controller, but you'd have to know how to wire it in. And if you have to rewire 120 volt wiring, you'll want a pro. Not necessarily an electrician, but at least a home theater pro.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.
