I must be dumb...

After working so long with ProntoEdit software revisions up to 4.05. I felt like I was an adept programmer. Now comes NG and I'm left going " What the F---????????"

Where is my gallery simply laid out so I can view a pallette and drop and drag my icon? Where is my position on the actual panel (going to properties kind of sucks)?

Anybody else feel like we've gone a few steps backward here? Or am I just an idiot?

The position of every bitmap is on the status bar on the lower side of the program window. You don't have to go to properties. In view select status bar and you're set.

I guess I'm bitching because I spent so much time developing a system that would work based on the old software. I see how to import my old gallery and how to convert .ccf files to .pcf but have not tried it yet as that all resides on my laptop at work.

How do I add a frame so I can simply add text?
Where is that awesome drop down alias menu that used to be there... I can't find it yet?

I'm sure that the conversion will eventually be less traumatic but for now... it sucks.

You add a frame (now called Panel) in the add panel menu. Type the text and you have to manually adjust the size in the properties. For now we can't resize it in another way.
Alias is now called Link, if that is what you mean...

Remember this software was out before the remotes even came out. Hopefully there will be upgrades to take care of some of these short comings.

I personaly don't use the gallery. I have a directory setup on my hard drive with all the icons I've designed and just use the import bitmap feature.

What about that "GREAT" feature of transparency? What about being able to use the whole screen for your icons? What about having 16 shades of grey instead of four?

I have designed PCF's with this software that I could only dream about with 4.05.

Just my "2" cents (with inflation, this really isn't worth anything)

also it is based on NEOEdit and not ProntoEdit, so they might still add some of the features that are missing

Remember that you can open two files at one time in PENG. So you can cut/copy and paste buttons as buttons or with entire codes with ease. I just saved one of my galleries as a file and open it with any file I am working on. I just need more RAM on my laptop--this uses a lot of memory!

That's what I love about this forum. If left to my own discovery I would still be looking for these items. Thanks for the info.

I definitely like the concept of the remote much better. The only thign that would have been even cooler is if the four buttons around the navigation cursor could be labeled and didn't come with predetermined icons. I guess that would have been a real bitch to put some tiny little LCD screen above each button so I won't be ridiculous with my desires.

As far as using the whole screen. I noticed I can move a button anywhere... even over the existing stuff. So what you're saying is I can eliminate all the Philips graphics and use the whole screen for bigger buttons. Do the Philips graphics stay in the background or can thay just be eliminated. Can I move the Date and Battery signal Up and get rid of the rest? What does the cursor at the top do when you press it?

You can place any graphic over the philips icons. What I do is place a white panel over the philips and then, over that, I place my bmps. You can also eliminate them from the system page. For now (I hope) you can't move the battery, the time or the signal up anywhere else. I hope this will be added later. But you can place a panel in front of the other things and let the battery and time show... At the top there are icons that: go to the device overview, another for the page overview, settings, navigate device left, navigate device right...

I just tried this -- the lastest version of the editor allows you to remove all of the system standard icons.. but you're right - moving them would be even more logical...and adaptive.
