I have a TSU 3000 running 3.9.8 firmware and an RFX 6000 in my system. The RFX 6000 is 12 feet away from my audio rack and about 4 feet away from where I sit. The three main issues I am having are:

1. I seem to have no range, they claim 100 feet. I am lucky if I get 30 and forget going outside and using it for my patio speakers. It may work or I may decide not to. Where I use it on my patio I am actually 20 feet away from the RFX 6000 with only 2 walls in its way, one is even a window. I even cleaned the fire place mantle of all its pictures so no metal was near this thing.

2. When I sit in my chair, in my theater and I am 4 feet away from the RFX 6000 I get dead spots. For example it won't work when the TSU 3000 sits on the arm of my chair (witch is just wood an fabric) and did I mention I AM 4 FEET AWAY. If I move it to the left or right of the chair arm it works. Keep in mind I have many (at least 10) dead spots in this 12 by 16 room, this is just the most annoying one. And just as a reminder Philips claims it gets 100 feet with line of sight and in my case this is 4 feet line of sight.

3. Recently I bought a Sirius Sportster Replay. I had a Sirius Starmate that I controlled just fine through the RFX 6000 but I installed it permanently in my wifes car so I could get the replay option. But, this Sportster replay just will not work through the RFX 6000. If I control it just with the TSU 3000 it works perfect, not 1 error. But throw the Demon 6000, I mean the RFX 6000 into the mix and all hell breaks loose.

Any Ideas?

These RF extenders are prone to EMF and other RF interference. Make sure that your extender is 1) Not behind your TV 2) not next to a speaker, 3) not set to the default extender ID and channel ID (try others besides 0,0).

Look @ these 4 threads from this search for other tips as well as 900Mhz cordless phones can affect reception as well.

And cheap halogen light transformers can really knock it out.

I appreciate the efforts. As I mentioned the RFX 6000 is on the fire place mantle 12 feet away from my TV and AV rack, I guess I just did not mention the TV part. It is an RPTV, not plasma as I have seen so many complaints. I have a 5.8 GHZ phone system, a 2.4 ghz 802.11g wireless router and an all for one universal remote with an RF base for the multi room setup until I fix this. I have 6 standard incandescent recessed lights each row of 3 is on an IR enabled Lutron dimmable light switch. My microwave is about 30 feet away but I have these issues even when it is off. To trouble shoot I have disconnected my cordless phone, wireless router and the all for one remote base. I even removed the batteries from the handsets of the phones. I do have aluminum siding and metal screens on the windows, but that does not explain what is going on in my room. Again I also stripped the mantle of all metal frame pictures and any other objects. Thanks again for any advice.

I have the RFX6000 and RFX6500 in the same room. I use the RFX6000 to control one device, and the RFX65000 to control a dozen other devices. I've had a lot of trouble with interference on my RFX6000, but the RFX6500 works very well. You may want to consider trying the RFX6500.

In one of the threads I mentioned, there's a Digi-Key part number for a 418Mhz antenna and instructions on how to install it. That is, if you're willing to crack the thing open and solder in the coax cable.

I have two RFX-6000 units mounted high on the back wall of my equipment closet just 2 feet above my equipment rack. The first extender I have had for a couple years now. The second was just added recently. To this day I've not experienced problems with either extender. The furthest spot out is my bedroom some 60 plus feet away. No problems. I also have a wireless network, wireless phones, and other things which could potentially interfere I guess, but they don't. While I know these extenders can give headaches to many, perhaps you should not rule out your extender or remote being defective. The RF capabilities of my first TSU3000 just didn't work. Operation over IR was flawless. Atttempting to use RF left me dead in the water. I tried everything. Finally I decided to return the remote for another one. The second TSU3000 I put to the test passed with flying colors.

I have had similar problems with an RFX6000. I finally replaced it, and everything has been fine.

It is important, though, to move off of setting 0,0. Mabye it's just that the switches need to scrape through their range to make a good connection, I don't know. This has solved similar problems in all systems where I have had RF difficulties except this one where I replaced the receiver.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

I Mounted mine on the celing as well, they actually recomend it. But for me the range got worse on my patio witch was the main reason I use the RFX 6000.

I also tried every setting 0,1,2,3 and tried the the ID thing on a couple settings. It did get better (if you can imagine it being worse) on 1,2 or 3. The thing that gets me is that Phillips says the red light should not be on unless you are sending codes to it. Mine is on all the time and no matter what RF thing I unplug it won't go out. It dose flash when the remote sends info to it.

Lyndel, Thanks I will look for that. I run an electronics repair team for palms and pocket pcs. So I am not one bit affraid. As a matter a fact, I dropped my pronto a while back and the back light went flaky on me. So outside of warranty I decided it would be a good time to start learning the insides. I actually have alot of the chips at work, but this was a cold solder problem. They soldered the TSU 3000 HORRIBLY. Almost no solder, so if you back light goes out (or anything for that matter) I may be able to help. Mine would cut in and out when you pressed the frame around the lower half of the screen. But, it is all fixed now and I touched up all the other chips in case of any other future issues. Seeing as how my RFX 6000 is now sitting on the floor lifeless and dam lucky it is not in a million pieces, cracking it open would not upset me at all if it never worked again.

As far as the Remote or the RFX 6000, I never thought of it that way but I guess it is possible. I am out of that stage to return though. I travel alot too and have not put much time into this till now so I guess that is my fault. I would love to try the 6500 but something about getting screwed on the 6000 makes me a bit defensive on the $200 purchase. Thanks again for all the advice!

If the light is on all the time, it means you have interference.

From what I read that is what I figured. But I unplugged every thing that emitted any kind of RF signal and got no change in the light. I have also never seen it out, ever. I don't have any special lights (a couple fluorescents and incandescent), I have a small old (1941) house and only 2 neighbors within 100 feet. I can't see any other way to clean up interference. I have allot of high end theater equipment, Krell and B&K powered by 2 - 20 amp dedicated breakers with isolated grounds, a voltage regulator and line conditioners on my theater so it should all be very well isolated from the house. The RFX 6000 is just on a normal house plug across the room.

My recent change from RFX6000 to RFX6500 solved all of my RF interference problems. it was $150 well spent.

Lyndel

I know this is an old thread but I'd like to try adding an antenna as I had to move a RFX6000 to behind the TV and it's now very hit or miss and I can't find a RFX6500. The links seem to be dead. It's only been 18 years. :)

I think that is just in the RFX6500. I've never seen the RFX6000 with the red LED not on.
