I have been creating a pcf for a TSU7500 today, and it occurred to me to see if there were an update of the software that might include more recent components, in particular DirecTV branded receivers.

It just hit me that the components in the 7500 might be unchangeable, which is to say the database might not be able to be updated. Is this true?

Along the way, though, I checked my version of PPENG and found it to be 2.1.4, datd August 5, 2005. The latest software in the Files section is labeled 2.1.1 and is noted as "updated September 18, 2005." Stranger yet, I downloaded this on the theory that the later date says more than the revision number -- perhaps Philips combined some programs and went off on a whole new numbering streak that makes no sense whatsoever -- then found that the zip file I already have is also named 2.1.1.

When you open and install the 2.1.1 zip file, do you get PPENG 2.1.4? Is this just a typo on the site? Am I about to screw things up if I install 2.1.1 because I will install a version previous to 2.1.4?

For now I am not updating a darned thing, except the firmware if it needs it.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Ernie,

Do you not read responses to your other posts???

Yes, I'm busting your balls here....

You have the latest. Don't upgrade software. firmware upgrades are OK.

As most of us don't use the database cause we might want to share with the Marantz folks who don't have a user database, your concerns may be unwarranted but do have some merit.

If new devices are added to the database, there will be both a software and firmware update. New DirectTV receivers probably use some codeset that already exists and simply needs some exploration. Philips did not release any DB updates I'm aware of.

FYI...
My own personal PCF does not use a single database code.
