In the FAQ (A1-04) on "What's the difference between European and North American models?" it says "... The remote's firmware has had minor changes made to it depending on the intended region. European firmware versions include a code database covering many European-only brands, while the North American version similarly has US-centric brands. The default configurations files are also modified to
include regional functions (such as TeleText in the UK and Closed Captioning
in the USA)."

Does this mean that a US model (i.e. 3000) won't be able to run TeleText, or simply that you have to 'teach' the unit the relevant codes?

Is there any other practical downsides to using a US model i.e. 3000 in Europe, aside from the RF differences?

Many thanks in advance for any advice,

Dee Tee

It just means that you will have to learn the codes if you need them.

Most of us do not use the internal database, so the only real difference is the RF frequency used to talk to the optional RF Extender, and the power pack for the optional docking station (for which you can buy a replacement at any electronics store).

You will find there is no real difference besides what is mentioned above, I have been using a US model Pronto with Sky and freeview including teletext functions without a hitch, you just learn the codes from the original remote + it is much cheaper buying from the US even with import duty if you search around. Hope this helps.

Well, RF can be used to control other things than the RF extender, like for example intertechno devices
http://www.intertechno.at/
There is a link in the pronto files / lighting / intertechno ;-)
I also know people using the RF to control their motorized screen...
Yes, you CAN learn RF with a RU950/RU980 :-)
