I have a Pronto 7000 that won't connect to my computer ever since I tried to download the latest version of the firmware. When I plug it in to the USB connection, instead of the normal “dinging” sound the computer makes when you connect something, I get a stuttered “half-ding” and it doesn’t connect. I’ve tried everything I can think of, plus some other things I found in the forums:

- Reset button underneath battery cover
- Uninstalled, unplugged everything, rebooted computer, re-installed
- Tried to reload firmware holding down reset button, releasing when program told me to.

The remote still works fine, but I’d like to change my configuration. Plus I’m starting to get some problems, such as delays changing screens & multiple button presses that from what I’ve found in the forums could be fixed by reloading the firmware. I’m hoping it’s something simple or something I just missed in the forums. I’d rather only deal with the Philips people as a last resort. When I first got my remote, it took over 2 weeks just to get a new battery.

If anyone could help me out or point me to the right spot in the forums I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks, Dave

Thanks Nick,

But I'm not the Pronto God!!!

Dave,

I had this problem the day the software was released. Upon install, the USB drivers had problems. I've also heard from some other folks that the drivers must be reinstalled when switching between the 7000 and 7500. Since I don't have a 7500, I can't verify this.

Both Peter DeWildt and I as well as others have logged countless hours testing this software. The editor is rock solid. However, the weakest point is the Installshield and the whole USB driver issue. But, don't let that turn you away. The PPENG software platform is 1000% more useable today than when first released to testers in September prior to GA of the 7000 remote in December (2003 or 2004, I forget which).

Lyndel,

The USB reinstall worked like a charm. Thank you very much. I poured through the forums a while back looking for anything that would work and tried any & everything I could find, including the USB reinstallation. I must’ve messed it up somehow the first time and just dismissed it as just another thing that wouldn’t work for me. Again, thanks a lot.

Dave
