i love my tsu7000 but on thing i find very annoying is that the only way to turn on the backlight for the hard buttons is with the light button on the left side of the remote.

it would be SO nice if the hard buttons would light up when the screen turns on. is ther any way to make this happen???

Someone recently posted on how to turn it on whenever you touch the screen background.

This is a variation on what he suggested.

1. Remove the background image on the System Page.

2. Create a button on the system page and use the original background image as both the pressed and released state for the button. Position it to be in the same place as the original background image.

3. Put the button behind the other system page items.

4. Add an action on the button to turn on the backlight.

Now whenever you touch the background on any page, the backlight will come on.

Thanks for sharing this an interesting method of button backlighting. However, I'd rather see Philips tie it into the pickup sensor and/or hard buttons. I've been requesting this feature since I got my 7000 2 years ago, because my 6000 had it.

yeah i agree - for now this is a good workaround but it woudl be nice if it was built into the pronto.

also how can i set the timeout for the backlight on the hard buttons. i have the lcd timeout set to 20 seconds and it woudl be nice if the buttons stayed lit for 20 seconds too. but they only stay on for a few seconds.

I can't get this to work, I'm sure that I'm doing something wrong.

1. Remove the background image on the System Page.

How do you remove, by deleting the background?

2. Create a button on the system page and use the original background image as both the pressed and released state for the button. Position it to be in the same place as the original background image.

I create the button, do you get the background from the gallery for pressed and released state? By position, do you mean the dimensions of 0W X 0L?

3. Put the button behind the other system page items. Do this by sending the background to the back?

4. Add an action on the button to turn on the backlight. This I believe I've got right.

Thank You Bob H.

Bob. Here's the warm-fuzzy you were searching for. With your PCF open....

1. Save your current background image to a file by clicking Save As... from the Appearance Tab of Properties for the panel. If you don't have a background, you can drag one from the "Images" tab of the Gallery onto an existing panel.

2. Delete the background image panel. Prior to deleting, note the left and top coordinates from the properties tab.

3. Create a button (Keyboard Shortcut is Alt-B) on the System Page.

4. On the Appearance tab, load in the image you saved in #1 above for both pressed and released images. Specify 'No Transparency'.

5. Reposition the new button to the coordinates you noted in Step 2.

6. On the Actions Tab of Properties, select Special Action - Backlight.

7. Right Click on the image and select 'Send To Back'

I spent at least an hour, I can't get it to work. I must be missing something. The left and top coordinates that you mention from the properties tabs are the X,Y pixels? Maybe I didn't have the right coordinates to start out with, maybe changed earlier? Aside from that, your instructions are precise and clear.

Thank You Bob H.

If anybody would like, I can email you my TSU7000 PCF that incorporates this "background button" that triggers the Hard Button Light. I still wish Pronto would just add this feature but until they do, this is what I am doing. This makes it easy so that I do not have to reposition my hold on the Pronto to press the left side hard button. Shoot me an email if you would like this. I will also upload this soon.

I finally got it to work, when I realized you have to do it to all your panels.I was only doing it to the system page, how dumb can I get?

You ONLY have to do it to all your panels if you have a custom background installed on each panel. Otherwise, the background on the system page will suffice.
