IR code works before PENG converts it in TSU3000, works fine in TSU2000

Here is the deal, I found a similar thread by Hornecker (June 2003) but could not get an answer for my dilemma. I have a video matrix switch (manufactured by Shinybow Model # SB 5544). The switcher works great with my old TSU 2000 but not with my TSU 3000. Here is the interesting thing, when I copy the code from the 2000 ccf and paste it into the 3000 pcf and hit the TEST IR button in PENG (while my remote is aimed at the switcher and connected to my PC), it works like a charm, the minute I save the code (by hitting the OK button) and then test it again, it no longer functions. Its IR code gets converted after I save it and stops functioning. If I do a re-paste of the 2000 code and hit the TEST IR button before I hit the OK button it works again. As I read the other thread, it looks like PENG’s conversion of the code might be causing errors. Here is the IR Code for one of the inputs of the switcher as it looks in Pronto Edit for the 2000:

0000 006d 0022 0002 0155 00ab 0015 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0015 0015 0016 0015 0016 003f 0016 0015 0016 0015 0015 0040 0016 003f 0016 0040 0015 0040 0016 003f 0016 0015 0016 003f 0016 0040 0015 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0015 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0015 0015 0016 0015 0016 003f 0016 0040 0015 0040 0016 003f 0016 0040 0015 0040 0016 003f 0016 0040 0015 05ec 0155 0055 0016 0e43

This code above works fine in my TSU3000 when testing it through the PENG but after it gets converted, it no longer functions. Here is what the code gets translated to when pasted to PENG:

900A 006D 0000 0001 20DF 00FF

I have the latest version of PENG and firmware for my TSU3000 and I also found 2 pcf’s in the 3000/7000 files section for Shinybow Switchers and those codes are the same as what is in my 3000 so do not work. I have also tried learning the codes from the switcher's OEM remote and also from my TSU2000 but have had no luck. Lastly, I imported the ccf into my TSU3000 and the codes for the switcher still do not work.

Please help me, it is this switcher that is causing me to stay with the 2000 when I really want to go to the 3000.

Thanks, Bill

Bump, any Hex Guru's out there that can help me with my dilemma? Or, is there a way to get around PENG's IR code conversion?

Thanks, Bill

Bill,

Try this. Notice that I duplicated the last 2 pairs and changed the repeat count to 4.

0000 006d 0022 0004 0155 00ab 0015 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0015 0015 0016 0015 0016 003f 0016 0015 0016 0015 0015 0040 0016 003f 0016 0040 0015 0040 0016 003f 0016 0015 0016 003f 0016 0040 0015 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0015 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0015 0015 0016 0015 0016 003f 0016 0040 0015 0040 0016 003f 0016 0040 0015 0040 0016 003f 0016 0040 0015 05ec

Before using the above code (which should work and not be converted) You may also want to try setting the 'Duration' of the converted IR code to something like 0.2s.

Lyndel, THANKS FOR THE HELP, this worked perfectly. I have adjusted some of the other codes per your instructions and they work like a charm. I wonder why the TSU3000 changes the code and also wonder how many other devices out there do not work with the 3000 when they might actually work with it if the 3000 would not mess with the code? The only bummer is that I gave away my 2000 so can not get all the correct codes (or TSU2000 version of the codes) for the rest of the buttons and adjust them so they work with my 3000. Is there a way to take what the 3000 learns and change the IR Code so it will work? The other codes look like this when I train them into my TSU3000 off of the OEM remote.

900A 0068 0000 0001 20DF 1EE1

900A 006D 0000 0001 20DF 00FF (you already fixed this one)

900A 006D 0000 0001 20DF 1BE4

900A 006D 0000 0001 20DF 18E7

If I have to, I will get my old TSU2000 and learn these codes and then convert them over to my TSU3000.

But again, your advice was awesome, thanks a lot.

Bill,

The protocol you have is the NEC protocol. If you'd like to understand what was done above a bit more, download the Pronto Hex IR Format document from the Pronto User Documentation Files section by Barry Gordon

From this code:

900A 0068 0000 0001 20DF 1EE1

The device id is 0x20 or 32 decimal. The function is 0x1E or 30 decimal.

Here's the contents to use for a Makehex .IRP file to gen all 256 codes, including the modified doubling of the repeat IR sequence in bold below.

Device=32
Function=0..255

Protocol=NEC
Frequency=38000
Time Base=564
One=1,-3
Zero=1,-1
Prefix=16,-8
Suffix=1,-78
R-Prefix=16,-4
R-Suffix=1,-174
Form=*,D:8,~D:8,F:8,~F:8,_;*,_,*,_

Lyndel,
This is pretty complicated stuff, when I have some time I will look into the IR format document and see if I can get a better understanding. Thanks again for your help on this, you really got me out of a jam.

Guys, I upgraded to the 7000 and 7500 (I have both remotes) and the code is getting changed again when I copy/paste it, I took what Lyndel put together:

0000 006d 0022 0004 0155 00ab 0015 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0015 0015 0016 0015 0016 003f 0016 0015 0016 0015 0015 0040 0016 003f 0016 0040 0015 0040 0016 003f 0016 0015 0016 003f 0016 0040 0015 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0015 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0015 0015 0016 0015 0016 003f 0016 0040 0015 0040 0016 003f 0016 0040 0015 0040 0016 003f 0016 0040 0015 05ec
0155 0055 0016 0e43 0155 0055 0016 0e43

And it (PPENG) converted it to this:

0000 006D 0022 0004 0155 00AB 0015 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0015 0015 0016 0015 0016 003F 0016 0015 0016 0015 0015 0040 0016 003F 0016 0040 0015 0040 0016 003F 0016 0015 0016 003F 0016 0040 0015 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0015 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0015 0015 0016 0015 0016 003F 0016 0040 0015 0040 0016 003F 0016 0040 0015 0040 0016 003F 0016 0040 0015 05EB 0155 0055 0016 0E55 0155 0055 0016 0E55

I am running version 2.1.8 of PPENG

Thanks for any input, Bill

Bill,

Do the codes still work? From what I can tell, they should.

Lyndel, they do not work, I have tried training them but even though both my 7000 and 7500 says they "learned" the code (after numerous tries), it does not work. When I upload pcf from the Pronto, I get the short code that started this problem:

900A 006D 0000 0001 20DF 00FF

Not sure what is going on, any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Bill

Lyndel, THANKS FOR THE HELP, this worked perfectly.

Which worked? Changing the Pronto Hex so PENG wouldn't recognise and compress it? Or extending the duration? Or it took both? Or you only tested with both?

I think the compressed form will send the same thing as the long form.

It seems more plausible that the important issue would be duration.

I expect that specifying longer duration for the compressed form would be the same as for the long form. But I'm less confident of that.

.2s is a strange choice. That is about enough for 2 frames (in NEC1 protocol) and 2 frames is very little. I have no idea what the rounding rules are. It could round to 1 frame or 3 frames. How it rounds may depend on almost any other factor (firmware version, Peng version, etc.). Maybe you want to try longer than .2s

John, it actually worked without adding the 0.2 sec duration on my old 3000. I then tried it with the 0.2 (on my 7000 and 7500) but it still did not work. I then made the duration 1.0 sec but it still does not work. I am not sure what to do, does anybody out there have this matrix switch and has got it to work with their next gen Pronto's?

You said that you copied and pasted the IR code from one remote to another using the editor software and that didn't work. I take it that you've tried learning the code from one remote to another and that didn't work either?

Yeah, I have been trying to train the 7500 from the OEM remote that came with te switch and an MX500 remote (that works the switch fine). The 3000 is nt longer functioning (touch screen just stopped working which is what caused me to upgade to the 7500). When it does say it learnt the code, I try it our and it does not work Here is what the codes look like for Video Output 2:

1 = 900A 006D 0000 0001 20DF 04FB
2 = 900A 006D 0000 0001 20DF 05FA
3 = 900A 006D 0000 0001 20DF 06F9
4 = 900A 006D 0000 0001 20DF 0DF2

This is driving me nuts.
