My $9 fix...

After much reading, decided to try the connection trick. After taking apart my remote, I did not really understand how the contacts were cleaned. I did, however, cleaned my screen. There was a ring of stuff right under the blue trim. I did not touch the connector. Works great.

What about the $9? That's what it cost to find a T6 torx (auto supply store).

Just in time, I was seriously considering a harmony.

I'm tired of the run around. In the past year I've sent back 10 units for warranty repair. Now I'm getting out of warranty units back. I smell Class Action. Who's in?

I am on my 3rd TSU3000/01. The first screen went in a month, the second overheated and now the 3rd I dropped and cracked the screen.... Anybody know if the screen can be replaced or if its wasted? thanks

Solved, pin technique
I wouldn't have believed it but it worked.

I also had the calibration problem after upgrading the
firmware, but the pin technique solved this.

The pin prick contact solution worked for me today! Maybe my wife will start speaking to me again. (She always figures I have screwed it up in the first place.)

Thanks to everyone involved in this solution.

Pin trick fixed mine.

lahe, on the top right side of the dispay (as you look at it normally) There is a ribbon connector with 4 contacts that comes from undernieth the display. Where the ribbon cable comes over the top of the display there is some hard brownish goop covering the ribbon cable where it contacts the display. Push the pin into the goop, hard. You'll barely break the surface even with alot of pressure. Do this several times over each contact in the ribbon cable. Pressing straight down into the goop. Your not trying to pierce the connector. Your trying to pierce the goop to push the connector down closer to the contact on the display.

Here is how I disasembled mine.

Removed the back cover

Removed the 4 T6 Tork screws

Carefully removed the "back" cover by prying carefully along the seam. The circut board is attached to the front cover internaly so remove the back!

The circut board is attached to the front cover with a single tork screw at the top of the circut board. Look carefully its the same type of screw that holds the back on.

Once the screw is removed carefuly remove the circut assembly from the front cover.

Lift the left side (the side away from the buttons) of the plastic frame surronding the display just high enough to slip a small flat head screwdriver under the left side of the frame, across the top middle of the display and then insert the tip of the blade under the frame just infront of the mute button as far as it will go. Turn the driver gently to lift and release the right side of the frame.

Remove the frame gently.

You should now have full access to the top of the display where the ribbon cable is.

Use your pin to push hard on the contact points.

Carefully put the battery in and test.

If it doesn't work pull the battery and try the pin again.

Take this time to clean your buttons. :-)

Place the plastic frame back over the display and push/wiggle it into place. Make sure the 4 pins on the frame go into the holes in the circut board and through the plastic sheet where required.

When you reasemble put the clear plastic spacer (that probaby fell out) in first. It goes along the top of the display with the iregular edge down against the circut board. Then place the top cover over the circut board.

Flip the asembly over so the screen is down. Make sure the bottom plastic filler around the connectors is in correctly and make sure the red lense is in correctly.

Put the screw back in the top of the circut board.

Connect the batt and test.

If all is ok put the back on carefully making sure the red lense and bottom filler around the contacts fit before you try and align the sides.

Close the seams gently and put the tork screws back in.

Put in the batt and back cover.

I don't understand how this puncturing with a needle or pushing hard on the contact points would help. Isn't that going to break the wire? I've been trying to push the contacts several times, and no luck, now the screen won't react to touch at all...

Well if pushing the pin on the contacts make it worse then your in the right place. I guess you need to hit the right spot.

Used the pin method described above. Used a small flathead screwdriver instead to just push hard on the brown cover on the ribbon connections. Seems to work fine. Hopefully this will be a permanent fix.

Same problem, no response from Touchscreen but hard buttons work fine (very annoyed as I'd just bought a replacement as the last two screens were smashed when dropped).

Felt a bit suspicious about the pin method, so just pushed hard on the contacts with a hard fingernail!

But probably more importantly, I found the ring of gunk around the edge of the plastic cover was quite sticky and had lots of dust embedded - and it's been unusually wet and humid lately.....

Once I cleaned this and put it all back together (the screen didn't seem to work until the top face was screwed back on tightly), now EVERYTHING WORKS!!!!

yeah baby :)
