Just had the main TSU3000 in the family room go dead again, and will fix it again tonight. Just FYI, the updated needle-prick procedure is here: [Link: remotecentral.com] , and some nice pictures to illustrate it are here: [Link: remotecentral.com] .

This fix really is absolutely trivial to do, and works very well. This time I'll use some DeOxIt contact preserver on the area post-poking to help seal out any moisture and perhaps get a longer service life before the next (probably inevitable) failure. Didn't have any in stock last time...

I've now done this trick on all 3 of our Prontos, and on two others that I installed at a neighbor's place. This is the first one that has experienced a reoccurence of the dead-screen issue. However, as I posted here ( [Link: remotecentral.com] ) in 2006, I believe they *all* will fail or refail eventually. So, the pin prick fix lasted for me from Aug 2006 to Sep 2008 here in low-humidity Colorado: not too shabby!

I'm quite sure that that fix will work again at least one more time. But I'll have another cheap Ebay unit on the way as a backup, just the same...

Thanks to bongiornoa, PeraV, fransvdmb, jw2k_fr, and many others for discovering and documenting this fix!

I just did two of my TSU3000s. I could not get it work with a pin pick, I used a knife blade and they are both back in business. I would not send any unit back to Philips, first, they do not deserve any money to fix the problem. Second, the last TSU3000 I got off of Ebay was under $75 (without a docking station), USD. Third, it is not that hard to do. Thanks to all on this site who continue to do Philips' customer support as usual.

I do not have at the hands of a new display to compare. This is a precaution.
No information available. Recently 1940/1945 smaller, this is all?
and tail fit, and attachment?

Just put where the old one used to be. You only need an soldering iron and a double face tape to hold it in place.

By the way only a high quality part will work. The ones in e-bay for 2usd are just garbage. So you will spend at least 50.00 on a good part , half of what your remote is quoted now. And if you didn't made it before the chances of losing the remote are high.

it is possible to buy a 1940 in good condition, working = $ 50.
and use it as a donor :-)
If the screen working, the replacement will be successful?

Not aways, it depends of the one you get. Some give no calibration. But good ones most times will work fine.

This is absolutely insane. I have never in my life seen such a poor product and product support.
I guess it is time to research for another remote. :(
$150 to fix it??
For what... in a year or two have it fail again because of poor design.
Avoid Pronto remotes like the plague...!!!

Hello all,
I am thinking I may try to get my TSU3000 fixed.
After several tries to fix the remote, I called the service department and they basically told me that the touch screen would cost $150 to get it serviced.
My question is for those that have had their remotes serviced, was the expense worth it? Did the fix last or did the problem again resurface.
Even the lady who answered the phone said they get a lot of TSU3000’s with frozen screens.
Thanks in advance…

Philips Authorized service use the orgiginal screen, and this part will soon or latter show you the same problem.

That is what I thought.
It is looking more and more like a URC 980 is in my future.
