I have had no luck with e-mails from thier "customer service" web site.

After talking to more than ten people, in their "Customer Relations" department, over a two-week period, they finally sent me a replacement unit. My Pronto NG is still-under-warranty, only 7-month old unit. Unfortunately, the replacement unit is refurbished and has a similar problem. Touching a button at the bottom of the screen highlights one in the middle of the screen. I can't even recalibrate it because the recalibrate button is at the bottom.

I just sent a three-page letter to the president of Philips Consumer Products to let him know what's going on in the Customer Relations Department.

I have a new screen problem, my TSU3000 is caught in a continous loop
if beeps @ scrolls to the next page. I sent it back to pronto here in australia only to be told that they won't fix it here & that i have to contact the place i bought it from in the united states. Has anyone had similiar screen problems, i have changed firmware forward & back. i was told it is a mainboard problem & that any internet purchase is not covered by philips in australia.

This thread is fading away...perhaps exactly what Philips is hoping for. Well, I'm not!

I'm ready for phase 2: but first I need a tally of users who have experienced the touchscreen problem. I've opened a new thread "TSU3000 touchscreen problem - COUNTER".

If you have experienced the TSU3000 touchscreen problem, please post indicating if you are still experiencing the problem or have found a permanent solution (from Philips or some action of your own). Please be brief, for example:
problem: still occurs
or
problem solved: new unit from Philips

I had the same problem.... I thought mine was the only one with this. I had to buy a new remote. You can see my post here:

Same as you, have done everything and nothing.

Just bought a refurb 3000 from www.outlet.philips.com = $152.63

Downloaded firmware ver. 3.6.7 from www.pronto.philips.com = Free

Uploaded firmware ver. 3.6.7 to TSU3000 = Free

Reading this thread afterwards = Priceless

Now I can't get past the first calibration point. My remote is a paperweight.

Luckily Philips issued a return pickup and my card will be credited the full amount.

Story #1

I've been exchanging emails with a Mr Gybels from Philips. He recently replied:

"We have now implemented a special repair procedure for this problem. Please contact our call-center at ( US (001) 888-486-6272 ) for further assistance"

I did. They said a new firmware was available. While I was on the phone I checked and told them it was dated April and that it may be responsible for this problem in the first place.

Then they switched gears and asked me to fax my proof of purchase, to call back in 5 days and that they would take care of my issue. Go figure!

I faxed it in. I'll post the result in 5 days.

Story #2

Philips outsources repairs in Montreal to some outfit. When I went to see them today I was told they couldn't service my waranty because Philips Canada would not reimburse them for any repairs for a unit not purchased directly from Philips. I was told I should ship my unit back to my vendor. I'll be verifying this tomorrow when I call Philips Canada myself....and I'll post the results.

My screen went dead yesterday morning. Went to Home Depot for the correct torx screw (T6) and also bought some Contact Cleaner. Cost me 12 bucks.

Was able to take it apart (the green screen was a little difficult around the 5 hard buttons on the right side). I thoroughly cleaned the inside and allowed it to dry. After about 2 hours, I put it back together and it worked just fine! I hope that did the trick for the long term.

My account was credited and I immediately ordered a second refurbed tsu3000.

It worked for about two hours. For the most part it is completely dead. Software was not updated. Came with ver. 3.1.9 and seemed fine at first. Downloaded my pcf to it, made some changes. I even used it for few moments. Came back to it later to find it dead. No hard buttons, nothing. Let it sit overnight, plugged in the battery in the morning.....beep, beep. ALIVE, but only for about two seconds. It has done that twice. Tried fresh batteries, fully charged battery pack to no avail.

If it weren't for the 80+ hours in my pcf I would give up on this POS, but my time is too valuable to me so I guess I'll try a third refurb.

AAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHH!

Great, so they're still giving us the runaround. I guess that's their "special repair procedure"?

To Canadian Pronto users with TSU3000 unresponsive LCD issue:

Philips Canada did not want to honor my warranty, according to Electrotech in Montreal who do the servicing. I had to call Philips US support and customer relations (again) and ask them to intervene. I was told by Electrotech that Philips US would actually pay for the repairs.

They finaly fixed it by replacing both the LCD -and- the logic board (only thing left I think was the casing).

It's working OK so far, after 3 days of usage.

Has someone tried the new Pronto NG Firmware 3.8.14?
Does ist haves the same problems as the old one? e.g. problems calibrating the screen, unresponsive LCD... or will it actually "repair" the Pronto's with the buggy older Firmware?

I'd like to upgrade my TSU3000 but i don't want it to be an expensive brick...

3.8.14 is for 7000 Pro. You probably meant 3.9.8 for the TSU3000.

And your question is a good one. Philips finally fixed my unit, so I can't confirm.

CV27 you're right, sorry.
I meant 3.9.8.

Anyone with the bugs solved mentioned above? (problems calibrating the screen, unresponsive LCD...)

Greetings all from Sunny Cyprus.

I dont even know where to start. I purchased my RU950 in Oct 2003. It worked fine right up until Dec 2004 then the screen froze. I dont graded, upgraded, reset it, let it rest and then it would work a bit and then back to square one, id have to let it rest.

It worked right up until a month or so ago when it needed calibrating each time i picked it up till yes, again it froze and ite been my daughters toy since.

So i took the liberty of buying an early xmas present for myself from the uk and my new ru950 arrived today...........open the box, place the batteries in (rechargable, i bought a docing station as well) and guess what, it wont calibrate.

It allows me to tap the 3 points and then says calibration failed.

I flashed it again, even upgraded to the new firm ware, i just cant calibrate it.

I am waiting for the company who i bought it from to call me, i am very pessemistic (spelling?) this time round, just really fed up. I will have to probably pay shipping to send it back to them and then wait for another one.

Thanks or listening

Pan

You are using something fine tipped like a paper clip to calibrate, right? Your finger won't do very well.
