After recharging my NiMh batteries in the Pronto NG remote, the backlight stopped working and the device draws excessive current running the batteries down in less than a day. I measured this current being about 100 mA when ON and 60 mA iddle. The display is working properly and the remote functions IR and RF are working too. Since the device is out of warranty I was wondering if anyone could give me some hints to track the defective component.
Any help would be appreciated.

Best I can suggest is that something has shorted or failed. Perhaps a component on the screen?

I purchased a T6 torx screwdriver and opened the device.
If I disconnect the screen I still have the current consumption.
Then I tried to measure the back light power (I guess thisis from the two wire flex circuit) and found that it has a ridiculous 100mV 50ms square signal. This is definitely not enough to power the light.
I have no signal on the large inductor nearby the flex circuits.
Does anyone know how the power supply for the light works and what the references are for the semiconductors in this circuit?
May be someone know what kind of voltage should feed the backlight?

I finally found what was wrong and posting it in case it can help anyone else.
The backlight power supply is generated by a 10 pin SMD package referenced D381.
This component is dead, no light and too much current.
I removed it and found a "normal" current drain but I have obviously no light anymore.
I tried emailing the manufacturer and hope getting an answer.
